Gloria Finch is our Caregiver of the Quarter. She first was introduced to caregiving after a friend of hers who worked for an agency looking for caregivers told her, "You'd be good at this!" Although she wasn't looking for a job at the time, she went for an interview and was hired.
Her first match was with a very interesting gentleman who had flown with the Tuskegee Airmen. She was later matched with an older woman who felt like her grandmother from the moment she walked into her home. This woman had memory issues. Every day that Gloria visited, she would sing to the lady, who eventually started singing along.
Despite the current environment Gloria has remained a steadfast and reliable caregiver never missing the shifts she has with her clients.
Gloria really enjoys working with the elderly. She sees them as good people who deserve compassion, love, and respect and it really shows.
We at Cahoon Care would like to recognize her for her wonderful caring spirit and dependable nature.

New Recruiting Manager: Karen Cavaca
|
Karen Cavaca is our new Recruiting Manager. She will be partnering with our Scheduling/Care Mentor as well as with our Care Managers to ensure that the unique needs and preferences of our clients are matched to the highly skilled and dedicated caregivers she recruits for our company.
Karen came to Cahoon Care with over two decades of talent acquisition experience, ranging from corporate recruiting for Fortune 500 companies to her true passion of recruiting for boutique-style organizations with a niche market. She has been recognized academically by graduating summa cum laude, for her volunteer work as Volunteer of the Year for Citizens for Citizens, and professionally with awards ranging from multiple President's Club awards across several organizations to Women in Leadership's Woman of the Year.
Karen came to know Cahoon Care when she depended on us for her grandfather's care, which brings a unique perspective to her recruiting role. She loves knowing that she's a cog in the wheel to help provide the same peace of mind she experienced during her grandfather's care to Cahoon Care's clients and families. This sense of satisfaction provides her with that certain something she felt was missing from her career. Utilizing her talent acquisition expertise for something genuinely meaningful to her filled that void and allows her to bring passion and commitment to work with her every day.
Outside of work, Karen delights in traveling with her husband Daryl; visiting her daughter Bianca in Delay Beach, Florida; and spending time with her son Nicholas and daughter Katie. Her favorite pastime is cooking for family and friends as she does her best to fatten them up around her dining room table. Additionally, Karen enjoys volunteering and has done so in a broad array of roles such as a rape center counselor, a career counselor for correctional services re-entry, fuel assistance, and most recently the mobile food bank.
For more information about Karen, watch our recent interview in the video above.

Helping Seniors Cope with the Loneliness of Social Distancing
|
The social distancing and lockdown guidelines recently or currently mandated by our federal, state, and local governments were intended to help flatten the coronavirus curve in an effort to protect our most vulnerable (the elderly and immuno-compromised), while also giving hospitals time to build up supplies and develop caregiving strategies.
This effort to bolster the physical health of our seniors, however, has ironically taken a tremendous toll on their mental health. Social distancing is creating an untold loneliness crisis, particularly among older people and those who live alone.
Social isolation and loneliness have been linked to higher risks for a variety of health problems, including high blood pressure, anxiety, depression, cognitive decline, Alzheimer's disease, and even death. For this reason, it is critical to find ways to combat the negative psychological impact of this extended period of social distancing.
