Mint chocolate chip ice cream is one of the best and most popular ice cream flavors. It has a refreshing minty flavor and all the goodness of chocolate which tantalizes your taste buds!
This creamy, gluten-free, no-eggs mint chocolate chip recipe is made at home in the 1.5 quart Cuisinart ICE-100 ice cream maker with a compressor. There is no need to freeze the bowl for 24 hours in the freezer.
It is a perfect summer dessert and a pleasant treat for the kids. You can serve it for parties and potlucks.
Ingredients
Homemade mint chocolate chip ice cream is made with only a few ingredients and no eggs. All you will need is whole milk, heavy whipping cream, sugar, salt, peppermint extract, and some semi-sweet chocolate chips.
Heavy milk is preferred for a creamy texture mint chocolate chip ice cream. If you use a low-fat variety then the ice cream will be less creamy and will also take longer to churn as the fat content in the ice cream will be less.

Peppermint extract or mint extract can be used to add a refreshing minty flavor. I have not added any green food coloring but if you want green color, you can add a few drops.
Also, add a good bit of chocolate chips to give it a perfect chocolatey taste. Chop the chocolate chips into small pieces using a knife before adding them to the ice cream.
Instructions
This mint chocolate chip ice cream is easy to make and takes only a few minutes of your time to make the mixture.
Blend milk, sugar, and salt with a hand blender using the whisk attachment on low speed until all the sugar has dissolved. Now add the peppermint extract, heavy cream, and optionally 3-4 drops of food color to it and stir it with a spoon or a spatula.
There is no need to whisk or blend the mixture after adding the heavy cream as it will be churned in the ice cream maker.
Chill the mixture in the refrigerator for about two hours before churning it into the ice cream machine. Before pouring it into the ice cream maker bowl, just stir the mixture once to make it even in consistency.

Make the ice cream mixture.

Churn the ice cream.
Churn the ice cream in the ice cream machine for about 25 minutes as per the manufacturer's instructions. While it is churning, chop the semi-sweet chocolate into small pieces with a knife, You can also grate it using a hand grater.
Just 5 minutes before the churning ends, pour the chocolate chips into the ice cream maker and continue to churn. The chocolate will get well mixed into the ice cream.
Once the churning is complete, the ice cream will be of soft-serve consistency and can be eaten right away! To eat it at a later time, transfer it to an air-tight freezer-safe container and freeze it for 5-6 hours before serving.

Add chocolate chips.

Enjoy the ice cream scoop.
Serving suggestions
This creamy mint chocolate chip ice cream is delicious and a pleasant treat for kids, family, and friends. It is a perfect refreshing dessert to serve at a party or take to a potluck.
You can serve the ice cream in a waffle cone, sugar cone, or waffle bowls. It can also be served in a banana split sundae along with other flavors like strawberry ice cream and chocolate ice cream.
While serving you can add some grated chocolate or chocolate chips. You can also top it with some chocolate syrup. My kids also like to add some sprinkles, especially green color ones.
Variations
Mint chocolate chip ice cream is gluten-free and has no eggs. I have ensured the ingredients used are gluten-free. You can also adapt this recipe to your liking. A few suggestions are listed below.
- Green color - if you like your mint ice cream green then you can add a few drops of green food color.
- Oreos - you can add a few crushed oreo cookies along with the chocolate chips.

Equipment
This mint chocolate chip ice cream recipe is made in the Cuisinart ICE-100 ice cream and gelato maker. However, you can make it in an ice cream maker. You can adapt the quantities of ingredients for your ice cream maker.

Storage
Homemade ice cream stays good for up to a month in the freezer. But it is really so delicious that it will be gone before you even know it! Keeping the ice cream longer can make a thin icy crystal layer on top of the ice cream.
Top tip
If you are using a compressor machine then pre-cooling the bowl for 5-10 minutes before adding the ice cream mixture helps reduce the overall churn time.
