“This memorial has been a long time in the making, but we’re proud to be able to give such a tribute to those who sacrifice day in and day out to keep our kids and families safe from harm,” Finch said. “And, we’re especially proud and humbled to pay tribute to those who have given their lives for the safety and security of our city.”

The memorial, which is between police headquarters and city hall, contains a bronze statue of a police officer walking with two children, an engraving of the seal of the city of Bridgeport and a podium engraved with “A Police Officer’s Prayer."

“This is a memorial for all the officers that made the ultimate sacrifice for the Bridgeport Police Department,” Gaudett said. “The memorial also serves as a reminder to our officers to remain vigilant.”

The memorial is surrounded by newly planted trees and a newly installed fountain. Park benches will be installed in the area as well.
