Production on Netflix‘s Wednesday has recently concluded. And even though fans will have to wait until next year to binge new episodes, a new photo of Jenna Ortega as the titular teen was released below.
While not much is known about the plot for Season 2, star Catherine Zeta-Jones, who plays Morticia Addams, recently teased their sophomore turn will “be bigger and more twisted than you could ever imagine.” Ortega has previously said the new episodes will lean more into horror, unlike the teen romance storyline focus from the show’s freshman season.
A week ago, Zeta-Jones celebrated her return home by cuddling her dog Taylor via Instagram after months of production working on the Tim Burton series.
“After seven months away from my little guy, Taylor my dog was the best homecoming gift. Oh yes, why 7 months…I was shooting season 2 of @wednesdaynetflix Wednesday!!!” she exclaimed.
Watch on Deadline
Created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, the series follows Wednesday Addams (Ortega) to Nevermore Academy, where she learns to master her emerging psychic abilities. In Season 1, she unraveled a killing spree that was connected to her parents Morticia and Gomez (Luis Guzmán) meeting at the school 15 years earlier.
Season 2 will shine a bigger light on Wednesday and Morticia’s mother-and-daughter relationship and new family members will be introduced. Zeta-Jones, Guzmán and Isaac Ordoñez, who plays Wednesday’s brother Pugsley, were all upped to series regulars. A spinoff expanding the world of Wednesday with a focus on Uncle Fester (played in Season 1 by guest star Fred Armisen) is in the works from Netflix and MGM Television.
Additional casting notes for Season 2 of Wednesday include Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo (Sheriff Deputy Ritchie Santiago) being upped to series regular who will star alongside newly added Billie Piper, Steve Buscemi, Evie Templeton, Owen Painter and Noah Taylor.
