0311 is the military occupational specialty (MOS) code for a Rifleman in the United States Marine Corps. Riflemen are members of the infantry, and are responsible for performing various combat-related duties. We were inspired by the Grunts to create the Rifleman 0311 MOS Marine Corps Challenge Coin.
These can include:
- Operating and maintaining various firearms, including rifles, machine guns, and grenades
- Conducting reconnaissance and surveillance
- Providing security for larger units
- Performing patrols and ambushes
- Engaging in hand-to-hand combat
- Utilizing survival techniques
Riflemen are trained to operate effectively in a variety of environments, including urban, desert, and jungle settings. They are also trained to work as part of a team and to react quickly to changing situations. A Rifleman is a basic position in the USMC, and many Marines start their careers in this field before moving on to other MOS.
Marine Corps Rifle Company
A Rifle Company is a unit of the United States Marine Corps (USMC) that is primarily composed of Riflemen. These are the basic fighting units of the Marines. A Rifle Company usually consists of around 200 Marines and is divided into several platoons and squads. The company is led by a captain and is usually part of a larger unit, such as a Battalion or Regiment.
The primary mission of a Rifle Company is to engage in ground combat operations and to seize and hold terrain. Rifle Companies are trained to operate effectively in a variety of environments, including urban, desert, and jungle settings. They are equipped with a variety of weapons, including rifles, machine guns, and grenades, and are also trained in the use of mortars, anti-tank weapons, and other specialized equipment.
Rifle Companies are often the first units to be deployed in combat and are responsible for securing and holding ground, as well as supporting other units in the Battalion. They are also the backbone of the United States Marine Corps and are known for their toughness, physical fitness, and willingness to engage in close combat.
USMC Grunt
A “Grunt” is a colloquial term often used to refer to United States Marine Corps (USMC) infantrymen. Grunts are the backbone of the USMC, and are responsible for carrying out ground combat operations. They are trained in a variety of skills, including marksmanship, hand-to-hand combat, and the use of various weapons and equipment.
Grunts are known for their toughness, physical fitness, and willingness to engage in close combat. They may also be responsible for performing reconnaissance and providing security for larger units.
They are members of the rifle companies and often hold the position of Rifleman (0311 MOS) and are the first ones to be deployed in combat situations and are responsible for securing and holding ground, as well as supporting other units in the Battalion.
