hibiscus gin cocktail

Welcome, cocktail adventurers and gin aficionados! I’m excited to share a drink recipe today that is so pretty . . . so mesmerizing . . . it’s about to become one of your favorite summer cocktails.

Today, we’re diving into the colorful world of hibiscus. I’m talking about the hibiscus gin cocktail, a drink so vibrant and refreshing, it’s like sipping on a sunset.

This isn’t just any cocktail; it’s a botanical journey that brings together the tangy zest of citrus, the delicate floral notes of hibiscus, and the crisp kick of gin.

And let’s not forget the pièce de résistance – a frothy egg white top that’s smoother than your favorite jazz tune.

Now, you might be thinking, ‘Hibiscus in a cocktail? That’s new!’ And you’d be right. This isn’t your run-of-the-mill gin and tonic.

We’re infusing your cocktail experience with a splash of hibiscus syrup, creating a drink that’s as pleasing to the eye as it is to the palate.

But wait, there’s more – we’re adding fresh squeezed orange juice and lime juice for a citrusy twist, and a hint of Campari for that bittersweet edge that whispers, ‘I’m sophisticated.’

This hibiscus gin cocktail is more than a drink – it’s a statement. It’s for those who appreciate the finer things in life, like a good gin and the exotic allure of hibiscus.

So, grab your shaker, some elegant glassware, and let’s embark on a mixological escapade that’s as fun to make as it is to sip.

Don’t forget to use high-quality spirits (I recommend Sipsmith) and fresh juices. The quality of your ingredients greatly influences the final taste of your cocktail.

Here’s what you’re going to need to make this hibiscus gin cocktail.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 oz of hibiscus syrup (see below to make it yourself)
  • 1 1/2 oz of gin – I recommend Sipsmith
  • 1/2 oz of freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 1/2 oz lime juice
  • 1/2 oz Campari
  • 1 egg white from a small egg

Hibiscus Syrup

(enough for 2 – 3 oz depending on how long you let it boil and how much it thickens)

  • 1/2 cup of hibiscus flowers
  • 1/3 cup of water
  • 1/3 cup of cane sugar
  1. In a small saucepan, place the sugar, water and hibiscus flowers. Mix and place on low to medium heat for about 5 minutes or until you notice that it has thickened and you cannot see any sugar left.
  2. Turn off the heat, and set aside. Let it cool to room temperature before using.

Note: if you would like to use pasteurized egg, you can purchase egg whites at the store. It tends to create a rockier foam, but a lot of people can’t tell the difference.
