In 2023, when Skrillex burst back onto the scene with new albums ‘Quest For Fire’ and ‘Don’t Get Too Close’, performed headline sets at Coachella with Fred again.. and Four Tet, and crushed the now-infamous Madison Square Gardens sell-out show, the message was loud and clear: Skrillex is back.
Although this year things have seemed fairly quiet on the surface, with the California native retreating once again into relative obscurity with just a handful of festival performances in 2024 at events like Budapest’s Sziget and South Africa’s edition of Ultra, it's clear that Skrillex is following his blueprint, taking a backseat from touring to focus on creating new music. With a handful of releases dropped at the latter part of last year alongside Flowdan, PEEKABOO, Lil Baby and Crayon, the last few months in 2024 has seen the first taste of what to expect from Skrillex in the near future. Keeping up the theme of mass collaborators and strictly soaring anthems, singles ‘TAIKA’, with Ahadadream, Priya Ragu and contra explores percussive soundscapes, while ‘Push’, the latest offering with Hamdi, TAICHU, OFFAIAH and contra, dives back into that signature, bass-heavy Skrillex sound we know and love. With Skrillex’s team further confirming that the DJ and producer is currently heads down in the studio, we’re excited to see where his sound goes next.
