It’s kind of a given that Brazilian twins Marcos and Lucas, aka Dubdogz, have got carnival vibes running through their veins. And it was only a matter of time that, along with their imprint Parade Records, they’d be taking their spectacular show on the road. “We’ve created our own authorial party, Dogz Parade,” they explain of the exciting, colourful and good-time parties they’ve been holding across Brazil this year. In between times, they also shacked up in Ibiza for a couple of months while touring across Europe, playing festivals and iconic parties including Tomorrowland and Ushuaïa Ibiza.
Their ‘I Love It’ collab with DLMT hit high on tech-house dancefloors, and work with Benny Benassi peaked for them when they DJed with him in Greece. Dubdogz’s side-project RUBACK, with Brazilian melodic techno label ERRORR, saw the duo testing out a ‘no phones policy’ in an audio-visual party that aims to create something like a ‘less phones policy’. “We have to say, when it’s done well, it works. The energy of the crowd has been insane,” they tell DJ Mag. Their gig list for the rest of the year and beyond is filled with plans to take their Dogz Parade into 2025 and beyond.
Fave tune of 2024?
“RUBACK & SLVR ‘Technologyk’.”
Rising star DJ/producer of 2024?
“Maz and Zerb.”
Could DJs do more to ensure that producers are fairly paid for their art?
“As DJs and producers, we could say that every kind of artist deserves recognition and a proper payment.”
Should phones be banned on the dancefloor?
“No, not banned. They are an important part of our lives in the times we live in. However, we do like the fact we are experimenting with some formats of parties suggesting to use it less or to not use it at all – but in that specific party.”
A.I. - friend or foe?
“It’s a tool. It helps a lot, but it can’t substitute human creativity. You have to use it smartly.”
What’s your lucky charm?
“We usually keep some keychains from clubs that we’d like to play one day. We had one from Ushuaïa Ibiza from when we went there more than 10 years ago (as audience), and then we played there in the last three years.”
