Abstract

In recent years, many efforts have been focused on implementing an effective digital home. However, the major problem that still has to be faced is the co-existence of multiple heterogeneous systems within the digital home: smart appliances, service robots and traditional devices. With the aim of solving the usual interoperability issues that arise in this context, we have developed the digital home compliant 2.0 (DHC2.0) protocol, an open standard architecture that achieves an easy intercommunication among devices. DHC2.0 is based on a devices profile for web services standard through a model-driven architecture approach. It provides an optimal communication network among devices in terms of localization, collaboration, efficient energy use, rules compliance checks, security and data privacy, which will result in a better performance of all devices that integrate into the digital home.
