Abstract:
In IT based business model innovations, emerging technologies introduce disruption into processes and organizational capabilities that could be difficult to overcome. IT services organizations must maintain their IT capabilities of innovation integration in order to exploit it internally and for their customers. Using the literature on resource based views as a grounding for organizational capabilities, this paper introduces a model of continual organizational learning that empowers IT organizations for innovation integration. Through in-depth case studies conducted at IT services companies, this exploratory research identifies mechanisms of knowledge management are required to transform IT organizations to a lever rather than a barrier to integrating innovation based on emerging technologies. The study succinctly presents the convergence of knowledge assets through a cyclic process that empowers IT organization to embrace innovation.
