Our mission is to build an equitable value chain by prioritizing women & minority producers, and we want to make coffee accessible and fun for all consumers.
People First, Coffee always.
We are an immigrant-owned, woman-led company that is driven by a heartfelt connection to people, from the producers and exporters we work with, to our exceptional staff and coffee-curious customers. We aim to create what we call “Driftaway moments” with every coffee: time to reflect and recharge, to dream and inspire.
The coffee producer is at the center of the work we do, especially since the balance of the credit for a coffee tends to lean towards the roaster. Coffee starts with farms, farmers, and producers, and we want to do our part in balancing the credit given to them for their work.
Not all producers have equal access to the market, to education and to financial resources: learning this inspired our mission to prioritize women-owned farms and minority producers, such as indigenous farm owners in Guatemala, and Black-owned farms in Brazil.
We also strongly believe that coffee should be an enjoyable and inclusive experience, not an intimidating or exclusionary one. By offering virtual tasting classes, approachable educational resources, and events, we aim to bring more people into the world of coffee without alienating or overwhelming them. Whether you're a seasoned coffee enthusiast or a coffee curious customer, Driftaway Coffee is here to guide you on a delightful coffee journey, free from snobbery and full of discovery.
Equity in the broader specialty coffee industry will only come from consumers asking for the things they care about, which is why we are dedicated to educating about these issues and advocating for equity.
HOW WE STARTED
Driftaway Coffee was started to fulfill our desire to create, do work we were passionate about, as well as our need for and interest in great coffee.

Our mission hasn't always been this way. Over the years, our mission has evolved because we’ve never stopped learning new things about the complex world of coffee and adapting our business along the way. We’re incredibly proud of how we've embraced change and learned from our experiences and new knowledge. This journey has deepened our love for coffee and strengthened our commitment to doing things right: sustainably, inclusively, and transparently.
CREATING AT THE HEART OF EVERYTHING
We started this company out of an urge to create. Create something we were passionate about. Something we could be proud of. There is no satisfaction in making sub par products just to make money. And being average is not in our vocabulary. After all, our creation is a reflection of us.
To that effect, when we created Driftaway, we obsessed over each and every detail – from designing and building the website to designing the coffee packaging and choosing to roast ourselves.
DESIGNING THE PACKAGING
The two of us designed the coffee packaging, inspired by vintage baggage tags to recognize the long journey coffee takes from seed to cup. Read about the process.
CHOOSING TO ROAST
To be truly proud of our company, we needed to be involved in the creation, so the decision to roast coffee ourselves was a no-brainer.
