The day has finally come – we’re mere hours away from the introduction of the Galaxy S22 series and Samsung thought it would be fitting to take a trip down memory lane. Samsung Newsroom prepared a top-ten list recapping the biggest hardware and software breakthroughs to grace the Galaxy line over the past decade-plus.
It all starts in 2010 with the original Samsung Galaxy S – the first smartphone with an AMOLED display. Samsung continued to perfect its displays which grew larger in size, pixels and refresh rate down the line.

The first Galaxy Note is another barrier breaker with its 5.3-inch AMOLED display and its built-in S Pen stylus. The OG S Pen supported 256 levels of pressure and was a productivity and sketching game changer. There’s high expectation that we’ll see a built-in S Pen with the Galaxy S22 Ultra so stick around to our homepage after the big event for all the details.

Samsung Knox debuted in 2013 with the Galaxy Note 3 as Samsung’s own mobile security and management framework shielding Galaxy devices from malicious software and unauthorized access while also encrypting user data.

2014 marked the first IP-rated Galaxy phone – the Galaxy S5 with its IP-67 dust and water resistance meant accidental drops in liquids won’t render your device dead. Since then Samsung has stepped up its Galaxy S-series to the IP-68 level on its flagships and we’ve even seen IP-rated midrangers in the Galaxy-A series portfolio.
