During the summer heat, Shoppers Mall brings the outdoors inside

Posted by Adam in Recreation, 7/16/2019

In all of this recent talk about updated outdoor play spaces its easy to forget in this manic Manitoba climate that the July heat and humidity isn’t always conducive to long outdoor outings.

That’s where Shoppers Mall hopes to fill a need amongst parents and their kiddos with a seasonal “outdoor space, indoors” that they’ve dubbed Kia Court Cool Park.

Setup under the skylight in the mall space known as Kia Court is an assembly of items you might normally find outside such as a sandbox, picnic tables with umbrella, accent plants and a form of artificial turf. To go with it a new weekly game is swapped into the space every Wednesday, with this past week’s Ring Toss about to be replaced by “4 in a Row.” As well every Thursday will feature giveaways of summer-ish items via some of the Mall’s tenants.

The new seasonal space will run until September 1.

While at Shoppers Mall, parents will notice that kid-oriented coin-operated rides and vending machines have been moved to within one unit within the mall just opposite Dollarama. The new space, referred to as “Ready, Set, Play,” is seen as a more permanent setup. In addition to some of the machines previously located elsewhere in the mall, a new “sports blaster” game and sticker machine have been added along with tables and seating for wee ones and parents.

Shoppers Mall last month held a Grand Re-opening to celebrate completion of a three year renovation.
