Greater Sudbury, commonly known as Sudbury is the largest city in Ontario in terms of land area and the fifth largest in Canada. The city is home to over 330 freshwater lakes and its history is deeply rooted in mining as it has been a mining powerhouse since the 18th century. Sudbury has a humid continental climate and often experiences hot summers as well as cold and snowy winters.

Sudbury is also home to six provincial parks and two provincial conservation areas that are located partially or entirely within the boundaries of the city. The largest lake in the world completely contained within the boundaries of a single city is Lake Wanapitei and it is in Sudbury. 

Though Sudbury’s economy was dominated by the mining industry for a major part of the 20th century, it has now diversified and established itself as a major centre for finance, business, tourism, healthcare, and science & technology research.
