Chinese mobile manufacturer Huawei released its own native set of emoji designs in August 2023 via their HarmonyOS 4.0 update.
HarmonyOS interface is based largely on the Android-based EMUI. Prior to the 4.0 update, devices running HarmonyOS used Google's default Noto Color Emoji font for Android devices.
With its launch in August 20203, HarmonyOS 4.0 introduces the first new device-specific native emojis set for an Android device since the mid-2010s. This meant that Huawei devices joined Samsung devices in having their own custom native emoji set despite running on an Android-based system.
Many of Huawei's new emoji designs contain attributes that are not shared by other vendors. Examples of this include ๐ Kissing Face with Smiling Eyes, ๐ค Money-Mouth Face, ๐ฅบ Pleading Face, ๐ช Kite, and ๐ Crossed Flags.
