He was born in [[Bombay]], [[India]] and was the eldest son of [[Lieutenant-Colonel]] [[George William Towers]] [[Distinguished Service Order|D.S.O.]], [[Order of the British Empire|O.B.E.]] ([[Royal Engineers]]).
