Thumpamon is one of the seven dioceses created after the MulanthuruthiMulanthuruthy Christian association (synod)Synod conducted under the leadership of Ignatios[[Ignatius PathrosPeter IV| Ignatius Peter III]], Patriarch of Antioch in 1876. Others are Kottayam, Kandanadu, Angamali, Niranam, Kollam, Kochi.<ref name="Encyclopedia">{{cite book|title=Malankara Orthodox Church Encyclopedia (Malayalam)|publisher=[[Orthodox Theological Seminary, Kottayam]]|pages=368|edition=1993}}</ref> The diocese was created with 21 churches. Konatu Geevarghese Mar Yulios was the first metropolitan and led the diocese from 1876 to 1884. After this Parumala Thirumeni led diocese from 1884 to 1902. Thumpamon English Middle School was founded inat this time.<ref name="Encyclopedia"/> In 1913, Yuyakim Mar Evanios becomebecame metropolitan. In 1930, Puthencavu Mar PilexinosPhilexinos become metropolitan. During this time, so many institutions were founded under the diocese .
 
The Bishop’sBishop's house (Aramana) of the diocese was built by Puthencav kochu Thirumeni (Geevarghese Mar Philoxenos) who was also the founder of the then Catholicate High School , at present known as Catholicate College which became the blessing and guiding path of education for the people of PathanamtittaPathanamthitta.
 
The contribution of Thumpamon diocese was not just centric to church and spirituality but also to the social fabric of Pathanamthitta, where late lamented Daniel Mar Philoxenise was part of the regional committee of the Pathanamthitta district who initiated many schemes and policy for the welfare of the people.. Then, Daniel Mar PilexinosPhilexinos led the diocese from 1953 to 1990 December.<ref name="Encyclopedia" /> In 1985, Philipos Mar Yusebios becomebecame assistant metropolitan andin become1985, and metropolitan in 1991.<ref name="Encyclopedia" />
