He received a Bachelor of Science in physics and mathematics from the [[University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh]] in 1988, a Master of Science in physics from [[Montana State University]] in 1990, and a PhD in physics (with a minor in mathematics) from the [[University of Minnesota]] (1995), where he was supervised by John H.
