Within the myriapods, centipedes are believed to be the first of the extant classes to branch from the [[Most recent common ancestor|last common ancestor]]. The five orders of centipedes are: [[Craterostigmomorpha]], [[Geophilomorpha]], [[Lithobiomorpha]], [[Scolopendromorpha]], and [[Scutigeromorpha]].
