Liquid Cooling Garments (LCG) are used to decrease the wearer’s bodily temperature and keep them comfortable. Generally, an LCG uses a series of coolant-filled tubes and a refrigeration unit and a pump to move the coolant throughout the system. These parts are usually encased inside of a normal garment, usually a vest.<ref>{{Cite journal |last=Zhang |first=Mengsheng |last2=Li |first2=Zijun |last3=Xu |first3=Yu |last4=Wang |first4=Junjian |date=April 2022 |title=Design and research of liquid cooling garments in thermal environment |url=https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ijrefrig.2022.04.014 |journal=International Journal of Refrigeration |volume=139 |pages=136–147 |doi=10.1016/j.ijrefrig.2022.04.014 |issn=0140-7007}}</ref> Since the coolant is so close to human skin, water tends to be the preferred coolant, as it is both safe for skin contact and effective at transferring heat.<ref>{{Cite journal |last=Yu |first=Xu |last2=Zijun |first2=Li |last3=Junjian |first3=Wang |last4=Mengsheng |first4=Zhang |last5=Mintao |first5=Jia |last6=Qiaoli |first6=Wang |date=5 January 2022 |title=Man-portable cooling garment with cold liquid circulation based on thermoelectric refrigeration |url=https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1359431121011546 |journal=Applied Thermal Engineering |volume=200 |via=Elsevier}}</ref> Due to their portable and versatile nature, LCGs have been proposed as a solution to overheating in areas where a standard air conditioning system would not be feasible or where the cooling would need to be under protective gear.<ref>{{Cite journal |last=Zhang |first=Yingshuai |last2=Yang |first2=Yiyong |last3=Ji |first3=Linhong |last4=Cheng |first4=Jia |last5=Yao |first5=Qi |date=2023 |title=Research and application of liquid cooling garment system based on human acupoints and meridians cooling stimulation in the high temperature environment |url=https://doiserbia.nb.rs/Article.aspx?ID=0354-98362200163Z |journal=Thermal Science |volume=27 |issue=2 Part B |pages=1687–1697 |doi=10.2298/tsci220702163z|doi-access=free }}</ref>
