:@Nosferattus_ Hi there! @Chaotic Enby reverted my recent edit to change from :Category:Canadian novelists to :Category:Canadian male novelists to the article and directed me here. Since Maillard is non-binary (a statement in the article that I hadn't read at the time I made the edit), it's fine with me to not add the article to any "male" categories.
:Since the article is already in :Category:20th-century Canadian novelists and :Category:20th-century Canadian novelists, would it be OK to remove :Category:Canadian novelists and :Category:Canadian poets per WP:PARENTCAT? Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 02:42, 24 September 2024 (UTC)
::That is a good question. In many of these cases, people are typically diffused into multiple subcategories under a diffusion category based on different schemes: gender, country of origin, time period, etc. If a person is already diffused into 1 of those schemes, and they don't fit into another scheme's subcategories, should they just be omitted? A literal reading of WP:PARENTCAT would suggest that, but this also seems problematic as it means non-binary people will be put into half as many categories as everyone else and thus be harder to find.
