''The farm at LaugaudridurLaugarbrekka Porbjadates back from the settlement. Guðríður Þorbjarnardóttir, wife of portinmurÞorfinnur Karlsefni Þórdarson, who settled in Vinland (America) around the year 1000, was born here. She was the first white woman to bear a child in America.

Later on she went to [[Rome]], and is considered to be the most widely travelledtraveled Icelandic woman down to the 20th century. Until 1881, there was a church here, and for centuries it was also a meeting-place for the local assembly.

Remains of the last turf church and farm buildings can still be seen. According to the legend, Laugarbrekka was the home of Bardur[[Bárðar Snaelfelsessaga Snæfellsáss|Bárður Snæfellsás]], the muthicalmythical hero of the saga which bears his name.''
