:As a caveat, I'm just basing the above on my own understanding; it isn't something I got out of a quantum mechanics textbook. The QM textbooks I have generally effectively just say "quantum states are modeled with vectors in a Hilbert space", without saying anything about ''why'' quantum states are modeled that way.
