The original version includes a line being beaten by the object of the singer's affection. This has been cut in the Barbra Streisand version, which many arrangements follow since. The Peggy Lee and Regina Spektor versions, listed as notable here, include the line. Consider this is a torch song of devotion, I'm guessing it's relatively un-PC to speak of a man who willingly hits a woman these days; are there any sources that can make such a mention notable?
