Flats Industrial Railroad acquired its rails and right-of-way within the [[Flats District (Cleveland)]] from former [[ConRail]]. As of 2009, the Class III Short Line railroad operates as the '''Flats Industrial Railroad''' Company (FIR/FIRS). It was believed that, during the early 2000s (decade), the Flats Industrial Railroad once owned at an ex-Union Pacific GTEL Locomotive. It was going to be restored and be put on display on a separate piece of track at Amtrak's Lakefront Station. But plans failed, the GTEL locomotive was moved to section of track near French Street in Cleveland. It was put up for sale in 2004. In 2009, it was bought by the Cleveland Works Railroad and was renamed '''The Eagle'''.' It left its location, under tow of the switcher "The Crow", for a siding at the LTV (ArcelorMittal) Plant on June 3, 2009. Scrapping on the GTEL began October 8, 2009. Scrapping ceased for a short time on November 29, 2009, but continued on December 3, 2009. It was finished on July 4, 2010. The scrap steel was recycled and used for repair pieces for the Great Lakes Shipyard. The engine was reportedly sold to Saudi Arabian or initially scrapped with the locomotive. The engine was found to recycled into a generator for a Saudi Arabian power plant.
