He played basketball at the Duke University from 1983-1986 winning two championships. He continued his career in the NBA for two seasons being awarded Rookie of the Year in the 1987 season averaging 31 PPG and 12 REB a game. His sophomore year in the NBA was cut short by a torn ACL to his right knee, he was avergaing 28 PGG and 10 REB. Adam re-injured the knee playing golf with Larry Bird at the Deutsche Bank Celebrity Championship. This prooved to be a career ending injury for Adam and he took a job with the league in 1991.
