The genus is monotypic with a lone species '''''Notiothauma reedi''''' which is native to the ''[[Nothofagus]]'' forests of southern [[Chile]]. ''N. reedi'' is flattened and notedly [[cockroach]]-like in appearance and habits, being nocturnal, and scuttling along the forest floor. The larvae are still unknown.
