Map
The map needs some changes particularly in Sakhalin AleksiB 1945 (talk) 22:26, 8 February 2021 (UTC)
- Without checking in detail, the map is just plain wrong for lots of countries like Germany where there are several age limits depending on the type of alcohol 8ya (talk) 17:48, 18 February 2021 (UTC)
- Reverted it back to the 2015 map, which is outdated, but at least seems to be somewhat accurate8ya (talk) 17:54, 18 February 2021 (UTC)

Misleading
"Legal Drinking Age" is so misleading. Take USA and Germany: in the US, someone below the local legal drinking age *is* prosecuted (I suspect it's all or almost all states) if caught drinking. In Germany, nothing of the sort happens. So, if a 12-year-old opens a bottle of vodka and drinks from it, and gets caught, he gets fined or worse in most of the US, but only gets the bottle taken away in Germany (it's illegal to tolerate the consumption by minors, though the law, as far as I read it, is unclear who exactly this applies to). And would then get questioned who sold or gave him the stuff (or made it accessible to him). Same for buying: it's not illegal to purchase vodka at 12 in Germany, it's only illegal to *sell* it. In the US, both the seller and the kids buying are prosecuted.
Of course, Germany might be totally alone in not prosecuting kids here. Nah, I doubt that. --jae (talk) 06:17, 22 May 2022 (UTC)
- Jae is correct.
- The article is about the minimum age of people to whom alcohol can be sold, or who can buy it. That is not necessarily the minimum age at which it can be drunk. For example, here in the UK there is no statutory minimum drinking age. It is effectively illegal to give alcohol to anyone under the age of 5, but I think that's based on rulings that it could constitute child abuse.
- Also, as Jae says, the article fails to distinguish between buying & selling. Pjirving (talk) 17:32, 23 July 2022 (UTC)
