Dr. Harry Destecroix (born 10 April 1987) is a British scientist, entrepreneur, and investor, renowned for his support of university spinouts. In the midst of his doctoral research, he co-founded the biotech start-up Ziylo in 2014. A year later Harry founded Science Creates, an organisation supporting the formation of deep tech spinouts wanting to drive impact. By 2017, Harry and his team had completed construction of the first Science Creates deep tech incubator (formerly Unit DX). This was a critical moment in the growth of the UK’s Southwest deep tech cluster, inspiring local scientists and engineers to become entrepreneurs. In August 2018, under his leadership as CEO, Ziylo was acquired by Novo Nordisk in a deal worth up to $800 million for technology that creates smart insulin [1] [2].
Destecroix is also a co-founder of Carbometrics, a spinout from Ziylo, innovating in the glucose sensing arena for diabetes management.
Destecroix is a co-founder of the Science Creates Outreach charity. The charity was spun out in 2023 from STEM outreach programs that started alongside the opening of the first incubator[3]. Science Creates Outreach aims to spark a passion for deep tech entrepreneurship among schoolchildren, with 2500 next generation entrepreneurs trained to date.
