Tom McMahon (mayor)

Tom McMahon is the mayor of Reading, Pennsylvania; he was elected on 5 January 2004. Mayor McMahon is up for reelection in 2007.

McMahon was born January 16, 1939 in Rochester, New York. He holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from the Rochester Institute of Technology, a Master of Science degree in Nuclear Engineering from Penn State University and an honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters from Alvernia College.

He served two years with the US Peace Corps in Bangladesh from 1961-1963 teaching math and science, and as a volunteer leader for incoming Peace Corps groups.

Moving to the city of Reading in 1965, he was Chief Electrical Engineer for Gilbert Associates, and later founded Entech Engineering in Reading.

The mayor has set his priorities as crime reduction, economic development, neighborhood revitalization and financial stability.
