- April 1 – West Coast Partnership franchise scheduled to commence[1]\
- – Beginning of the 14 month scheduled 14th Street Tunnel shutdown to allow for repairs on the New York City Subway Canarsie Line tunnels which were damaged by Hurricane Sandy in 2012.[2][3]

- – Elizabeth line scheduled to open from Shenfield to Paddington[4]
June events
- – Go-Ahead Germany will commence operating[5]
September
- – Valley Metro Rail Gilbert Road extension is scheduled to open.[6][7]
- – Expected opening of the Berryessa segment of the Silicon Valley BART extension.[8]
November events
- November 14 – Possible delayed opening of the Central Subway in San Francisco.[9]
December events
- – final part of Elizabeth line scheduled to open from Paddington to Heathrow and Reading[4]
- – Thomson-East Coast MRT Line Phase 1, from Woodlands North to Woodlands South will open.
Unknown date events
- – Sydney Metro Northwest, Australia's first dedicated rapid transit line will start operations.
- – The Basque Y is scheduled to be finished.[10]
- – Sofia Metro Line 3 is expected to open.[11][12][13]
- – The City Circle Line of the Copenhagen Metro is expected to open.[14]
- – Sha Tin to Central Link is expected to open.
- – JR West's Miyakojima Station to open.
- – Construction completed on New York City's Metropolitan Transportation Authority's East Side Access project to bring Long Island Rail Road trains into Grand Central Terminal.[15]
- – Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority's Crenshaw/LAX Line to open,[16] including Aviation/Century station.[17]
- – Expected opening of Sonoma–Marin Area Rail Transit’s extension to Larkspur Landing Ferry Terminal.
