Fraternity

Post 4: Ok, well I don't understand why there are so many fraternity pages on this website. Your information of them almost NEVER making the cut is wrong. I have found info about most of the fraternities I needed to. For example, I found the information on my fraternity to see if it was legitimate. It lead me to their website where I found even more info. I also found info on why Sigma Chi should not return to my campus. It is a great place to find info, and it is a great place to put info. It is not a place of advertising necessarily, but with a lot of articles it helps others find reasons of when organizations were established and for what purposes. That is the reason of posting this info. I also noticed that there are articles similar to mine that are still up, and they have not been deleted. Like I said, this is a place to gather info and to provide more places for more info.

For the record, MySpace is an illegitimate resource. There is too much spamming and misinformation that it is no longer good for advertising in the way for school. I mean if I really wanted to promote my organization, going about it through wikipedia is not the way--especially since there are people who do not use it. Like I said, I gathered info on the fraternities for my personal use, not as an advertisement.

Why should giving info on Mu Pi Phi be any different?

Post 3: Ok, I understand. The reason of their being a need for the writing of these articles is get the fraternities known around the U.S. I understand of deleting Mu Pi Phi, but it has concrete establishment at NKU. I am also help forming a chapter at another university. Being a member of one of the fraternities, I would hope they would choose to expand my own brotherhood, but it is also a good thing to know why they didn't choose to expand the other brotherhoods. Just be more specific on your deletion. May I also ask if I may repost the Mu Pi Phi article. I am signing off, but I will return later.

Post 2: What was the purpose of deleting it? I was in the process of editing it. 20 November 2006

Post 1: Hey man, I am slightly confused about your comment on my talk page. Can be more specific on which page you are talking about because I have made many contributions to many fraternity pages. Please let me know ASAP. Thanks. Adam Bencomo 20 November 2006

Hi... wow, I only began making this page and was going to return to add more... There were references but I guess since this was my very first post I didn't understand the formatting, etc. Please don't arbitrarily delete all this work as it is all verifiable, not just an opinion. Prod tags

While normally it is not allowed for users to remove deletion tags, the proposed deletion tags are an exception. The author of the article or any other user may remove a prod for any reason whatsoever, and if any user does so the prod process may no longer be used in that case. As the prod on List of Google Bombs is disputed and cannot continue, I'm going to go ahead and remove it. If you still think the article needs to be deleted you may list it per WP:AFD. MEGATON article...

Heya!

Just wanted to note that, yeah, in it's current form, the MEGATON article is... lacking. Eventually, I hope to see it filled out though. Thanks for stopping by. -UB

Ari Hoening Article

The article on Ari Hoenig was actually requested on the Wikipedia Musicians list needing bios. The mere fact you're not familiar with Hoenig doesn't mean he's a "garage band" for your rage. Get a life.

Ari Hoering

No it doesn't, other things do. There's extensive guidelines on what constitutes notability and even extended specific ones as they relate to music and musicians, Ari Hoering doesn't fit them as notable enough to sufficiently warrant their own article. Perhaps rather than trolling at me here are some things you might consider to sate the request for the article and obviously your own desire to create it.

  • I'm not sure what sort of music Ari does, but consider a section on them in the article for that genre.
  • If there's an article about the music scene of the area they play in, consider mentioning them in there.
  • If there is any festival or forum in which they have played which is notable enough to have it's own article, consider adding content about Ari Hoering to it.

My userpage states my position on this stuff, it doesn't mean that I don't believe Ari Hoering belongs on the Wikipedia, it means that I (and the administrator that accepted my nomination of it as a CSD agreed) have helped out keep the Wikipedia encyclopedic by flagging what I felt was an article about someone not notable enough to stand alone.

Thanks for dropping by.

Thanks for your comments - the orginal article mentioned Hoenig was a jazz drummer. He plays all over the world in addition to New York, is that a large enough "scene"? I've added some more detail as well, but the main link I had initially provided to his his Web site has a ton of information for those who actually are interested. I've also added Wiki links to a number of other musicians that have pages already. As I said, I happened to see his name on a list of people bios had been requested for, and smiply tried to fill that need, as I met him at a concert a few months ago. There's also an added link from a leading drummer Web site with added information. I hope this "qualifies" for you, if so, kindly withdraw your objection. Thank you.

Bernice Hansen

I happened to see that she was red-linked, and thought somebody ought to say something about her. I love the old Warner cartoons, and I recently got the Looney Tunes Golden Collection, which has 4 volues so far. As I'm meandering through it, I'm finding stuff that's useful for entering in this Looney Tunes / Merrie Melodies series of pages, and the beauty of it is that it's its own source. Here's another useful source [1], and now that I've entered the Hansen section before reading about it on this site, I've got some egg on my face, as there seems to be some doubt about Hansen's part in the "Sniffles" series. That's the annoying thing about the Warner cartoons: they only credit Mel Blanc, who was by no means the only voice. Many of the voices are identifiable, but some of the early ones are hard to pin down. Now I wonder what I should do about the article. I'll have to let it stand for now, maybe with a caveat. I've thought maybe there should be a category for Warner cartoon voices. Maybe there is one, I'll have to see. I don't do much with categories, as I find they are a constant source of debate and conflict, and I just don't have time for that. Wahkeenah 08:20, 8 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Once again

I didn't spam your page...I simply posted one of the most extensive and world-ranging gig lists you'll see for ANY musician anywhere, as an FYI.

Based on your criteria, hundreds of jazz musicians would never "rate" a page on Wikipedia because they weren't famous enough to someone sitting in Australia who apparently knows almost nothing about about the music in question. Thank whomever your criteria doesn't generally apply. In my spare time I write for a major U.S. newspaper group and I try like mad to know what I'm talking about before I publish anything anywhere. Hoening is a band leader and recording artist of note to those who know the music, and want to learn more about it, and Wikipedia is a deserving place to do so.

Yes...the idea is for you to research, at least click a link before you flame my entry as unqualified - I'd never dream of doing that for something I knew nothing about. It's unneccessary to rework every musicians career into an extended Wiki article right off the bat, but if others want to that know more...I thought that was the idea of this whole project.

Not Quite

http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ari_Hoenig

The above is a link for the Italian Wikipedia entry on Ari Hoenig. Seems Wikipedia Italy thinks he's significant enough - he must have spent some time in Europe.

I have reviewed the guidelines on music submissions you were kind enough to link and the content now provided more than meets said standards. I contested your request and my page is in limbo - again, please inform the adminstrators you wish your removal request be dropped. There is simply no need for me (or anyone else) to need to spend hours researching a subject to prove to whomever what is easily discoverable through any major Web search engine, for those that bother to look, especially if the contestee has no first-hand knowledge of the subject matter. Again, fortunately, the vast majority of jazz artist pages on Wikipedia do not have to go through this, nor should they.

Please remove your request and miscategorization of this artist. Thank you.

Your prod of Neros Empire

I contested your prod of Neros Empire. It was originally a very large section of Choujinki Metalder that had, in my opinion, grown too large to remain a part of the main article, so I split it off. My apologies for not adding sufficient context to the new article (I originally just copy/pasted the section and bolded the title). That has since been corrected. jgp TC 06:51, 12 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Unrest in the Midwest

This is an article for an issue of A Day In The Air zine which is additionally a forthcoming record release. The article is notable on the basis that the zine is notable and that the article Iowahardcore.com(pilation) is notable and has not been contested. This article is definitely a stub and more information needs to be included as is made available. Xsxex 07:16, 26 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

What is the criteria for a notable zine? I think the article on A Day In The Air is a model article for a notable zine. How many articles on zines are even on wikipedia? I think there are very few compared to how many zines are and have been published. Again, Im not going to even argue that this is an article for a musician because the first issue is whether or not A Day In The Air is a notable zine. Also, please sign your comments using 4 tildes. I have been an active wikipedia user for over three years. Xsxex 07:25, 26 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Skinny Puppy's Censor single

May I ask why you tagged this single? and why you failed to notify me when you tagged it? It is just common courtesy. Naufana : talk 00:11, 30 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

I've added external links to all music guise and discogs (as suggested by WP:MUSIC#Resources). Honestly, I'd wish you would have given the article at least a day or two before tagging it like that. Just because the creator of an article doesn't have all the particulars of a cd's release does not mean it is not notible. Worst case scenario I will move the article to the albums article.Naufana : talk 00:36, 30 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

See I disagree, I feel the philosophy of Wikipedia is that articles begin as inchoate pages that grow through the edits of various users. I can plainly see that you have a little project of deleting articles you feel are not notible, and that's great we need people who are willing to trim some of the proverbial fat. It's just that I believe an article should be given, at least a little, time to grow on its own before the decision is made on whether it's notible or not. And trust me I am not using wikipedia to build the significance of Skinny Puppy, I think the band has accomplished that nicely over the last 24 years. Dr.S.HUSSAIN ZAHEER MEMORIAL HIGH SCHOOL

Hi, I just cleaned this up a bit and was going to move in to an article with proper capitalization. Will that interfer with the AfD listing? Cheers, :) Dlohcierekim 03:27, 16 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Cool. I cleared away some rubbish. Cheers, :) Dlohcierekim 03:32, 16 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

I would like to ask you to reconsider your creation of the AfD for Dr.S. Hussain Zaheer Memorial High School. With a little bit of research, it is clear that the school is indeed notable, and the additional information has been added to the article with material from the school's web site and several references from The Hindu, India's main national newspaper. With its management and operation by the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, the school has a unique science program that allows students to learn from India's top scientists, and to have heard from several recent Nobel Prize in Chemistry laureates. The school competes in, and has won, at the top levels of sport in the state. I strongly suggest that all those who previously voted to Delete should re-read the article and reconsider their vote. Alansohn 15:55, 16 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

  • Hi There, Not normal form to reconsider the AfD per se, once an AfD is submitted the process will normally run it's course. They are rarely withdrawn, rather the result is usually that a consensus is quickly formed that it should be kept, which is what looks like will happen here (remember Wikipedia rarely uses votes to decide things, and the original Delete comments in the AfD will now appear irrelevant in what is a debate on the AfD) Originally this article was prodded and that prod removed without much thought for why it was added which while not against Wikipedia policy isn't a very sensible thing to do, it appears as if the AfD nomination encouraged a speedy clean up and fix of the article which at the end of the day is a good thing. Thanks for your help cleaning it up, it was a good save.
    • It's not unprecedented for a nominator to withdraw the AfD if new information arrives, and I thought I could take a stab at the request, or at least to convince you to reconsider a vote. Unfortunately, AfDs can be effective tools at forcing improvements to an article. While I wouldn't recommend that as a matter of course, it did have a positive effect in this case. I've pulled off some AfD saves in the past, but I don't think I was ever able to whip up a decent article so quickly and convince so many to change their votes in what seemed to be a clear consensus delete. Thanks again for the kind words. Alansohn 22:47, 16 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

That is fine, but PLEASE leave my 'Fly the Airbus A380!' artice on!

I've marked it for speedy deletion because it is solely designed to market a product, this is not what Wikipedia is for. Why are you so insistent that something inappropriate stay on the site? •Elomis• 03:14, 26 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Rossin

I don't see what was wrong with Fly the Airbus A380! It was not advertising. I based it around the template of other games such as Age of Mythology, Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 and one of my own creations, Marble Drop. Would re-writing the FTA380 article help? If so, can you give me some tips on how to do this?

  • It's not about how the article is written, it's the subject matter. Things in an encyclopedia need to be notable or important, Age of Mythology ranked number nine globally in 2003 for sales by volume, Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 sold like hotcakes too and more than that it was notable because it was widely accepted as being an innovative gaming idea. Fly the Airbus 380! is an expansion pack to a end of sale game, the expansion has received little to no critical acclaim (I can find a single review by a non-flightsim dedicated site for 3½ stars). An expansion pack that is available on overstock.com for twenty-five bucks is just not worthy of an article in an encyclopedia. Is there anything about this expansion pack that is particularly important or worthy of people knowing? If that's the case feel free to re-write the article, perhaps it has sold a gazillion copies and I just can't find where, perhaps it's been banned in a country, perhaps it's the official game sponsored by airbus, maybe it was ranked in the top ten games of the year by a notable PC games magazine. Explain how this is notable and important and you'll be warranted re-including it. •Elomis• 06:55, 26 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Rossin

OK, I have realised how my Fly the Airbus article was inappropriate, and the list of software packages thing, but waht about AP? I don't understand how it is 'non-notable' when companies such as Wyeth, (which I had not even heard of until today) are still on Wikipedia. Besides, dictionary.com defines 'encyclopedia' as, a book or set of books containing articles on various topics, usually in alphabetical arrangement, covering all branches of knowledge or, less commonly, all aspects of one subject. Emphasis on covering all branches of knowledge, not all notable branches of knowledge.

  • Sure. Wyeth is a company of over 49,000 with an annual turnover of about $18 billion. It has existed for well over a century! It is traded on the S&P 500 (so by definition is one of the 500 most notable companies in the US). I know dictionary.com defines an encyclopedia that way and that's cool, but Wikipedia has guidelines for notability and some pretty clear rules about what it is not, these are here and here and are pretty important. Have a read through them, they'll make things MUCH clearer. •Elomis• 07:58, 26 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Rossin

Thanks Elomis, the only thing I am not sure of is in WP:NOT, under Wikipedia is not a soapbox, number 3. My article about AP was unbiassed and neutral. Otherwise I understand. Thanks. (By the way, my example of Wyeth was not very good, as you have realised. What is that S&P 500? What site is it at? I would like to check it out.)
