The image has been in circulation and broadly distributed by the media since 1970, who it is believed would not lose profit from its further distribution. It is believed to be free for distribution and reuse. It has been extensively disseminated by civil rights and justice campaigns in the news media, both TV, print and digital, since its first release. It lacks any substantial creative element. It is highly unlikely a free media alternative will become available as the subject has been deceased since 1969 and this is the only known photograph of him. Searches by police in the UK and by Interpol in Nigeria in 1971 found no living relatives.
