Sorry for my rv of 13FEB2006: I thought I was reverting some vandalism from DEC2005, but cocked up mightily. User:Noisy | Talk 10:05, 13 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

What about this Ian wright?

That guy is a white American inventor. This guy is a black English football player. So yeah what about him?--EchetusXe (talk) 12:28, 12 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Early career and allegiances as a fan/local team

edit

Corrected first section - how anyone can think that signing as a professional at the age of 21 is relatively early is beyond me! Also, whilst I don't know what his original allegiances as a football fan were, I would question the statement that millwall were his local team - if he came from woolwich, and started off his career at Greenwich Borough, anyone with a vague grasp of London geography would be well aware that his nearest professional team are Charlton Athletic, not Millwall - I'm not suggesting that he is a Charlton fan, simply pointing out that they are by far the nearest club to where he came from - The New Den is at least 7 miles from Woolwich, The Valley is walking distance from Woolwich (about a mile at most).

is ian wright a dancer?

family

edit

I find the bit about his family a bit confusing. I know Shaun Wright-Phillips is adopted but is Bradley adopted too, if so how are they half brotherss? Can this be clarified.

Bradley is son of Wright and his former girlfriend Phillips, Shaun is son of Phillips. Brett is another son of Ian Wright but anotrhoer girlfriend. Matthew_hk tc 09:12, 21 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Incosistancy in International appearances

edit

In the information box on the right hand side it says he got 31 caps and 9 goals while information in the article states he started for England 17 times and made 16 substitute appearences...that suggests 33 caps?

Could someone sort this out? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.7.213.252 (talk) 23:57, 3 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Incarceration

edit

Something to work into the article....

According two sources, Wright served 14 days in Chelmsford Prison for driving without tax and insurance, see here. Likewise on Sky One (August 2009), there are is going to be series on Wright and a footballing school he has established for prison inmates. Wright says in the trailer that his spell in gaol was enough to make him make a personal promise that he'd never go back inside, The experience instead gave him commitment to become a professional player.

The key point being that the short prison spell was the turning point in his life. It is noted in this article that he was 21 before he turned pro (a late age for football player) which was just two years after his time in gaol. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.130.123.99 (talk) 23:07, 26 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Tesla co founder

edit

I was just reading an article about the co-founder of Tesla: "electric guru Ian Wright says that electric vehicles like the Chevy Volt and Nissan Leaf will only play a peripheral part in the auto market.".

But instead of this Ian Wright, I found only a football player. --Pege.founder (talk) 08:18, 28 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Race

edit

"Ian Edward Wright, MBE is a retired Black British footballer..." do we need to know he's black in the first sentence? Articles for white football players don't state so at the start. And it's not as though he's been involved in any kind of activism or his race has ever been the subject of news or controversy. There may be a reason for this, in which case fine, but thought I'd chip in. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.252.11.134 (talk) 23:30, 16 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Disaster

edit

This article is a disaster in its current state. Why is there a huge section on his (modest) international career but virtually nothing about his excellent club career, and then a gigantic section on his TV work? For example, which is more important: Wright scoring twice in the 1990 FA Cup Final and again in the 1993 Final, or "Wright appeared as a "celebrity hijacker" in the television series Big Brother: Celebrity Hijack"?

The article needs major work. How this page tells us "This article has been rated as B-Class on the project's quality scale" about the Football WikiProject is entirely beyond me. I will attempt to work on it but if anyone else can make a start please go ahead. C i d 19:02, 19 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

It's not great but not as bad as you thought. Large chunks were deleted on 17/1 mostly relating to his club career. I have reinstated this. This article does suffer, as do most articles on footballers, in that is has been composed piecemeal and not in one concerted effort. It could also do with a much better picture (or two).--Egghead06 (talk) 07:32, 20 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
That's a weird bit of vandalism. Cheers though, I checked the last handful of revs but obviously not far enough. I'll look to do some tidying on it when I can. C i d 09:42, 20 January 2011 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.97.218.20 (talk) Reply

Who?

edit

Why is this page used for some guy no one has ever heard about instead of for Ian Wright? --Oddeivind (talk) 19:13, 13 October 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hmmmm, one of the most important footballers for Arsenal FC (one of the biggest football clubs in the world) and of the Premier League (the most watched football league in the world) era against someone who travels and for whom the only reference is the unreliable IMDB?--Egghead06 (talk) 06:16, 14 October 2015 (UTC)Reply
Agreed. Ian Wright (footballer) is far more well known than his namesake the traveler. Although I would say that here in the US the traveler is probably more well known due to his TV programmes on PBS, but even then only by a niche segment. I think just another case of if you're not known that well in the US, then people think you're a nobody, which is fundamentally untrue in this case. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.78.80.8 (talk) 17:18, 11 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Wright didn't win the ECWC in 1994. He was suspended for the final after picking up a yellow in the semi.

edit

Any ideas on the best way to change it? The next season, he made history by scoring in every game up until the final, but ended up on the losing side.

We need his stats. Games and goals per season per competition as on most other player's pages.

Any idea where to find them? (I usually look on wiki.)

Incorrect Arsenal appearances & goals

188 appearances for Arsenal

185 goals for Arsenal
