Hello, I'm John from Idegon. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Eagle, Idaho, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. John from Idegon (talk) 05:11, 31 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Please do not add or change content, as you did at Meridian, Idaho, without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. John from Idegon (talk) 05:12, 31 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Please stop adding unsourced content, as you did on Star, Idaho. This violates Wikipedia's policy on verifiability. If you continue to do so, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. John from Idegon (talk) 05:13, 31 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you add unsourced material to Wikipedia, as you did at Kuna, Idaho. John from Idegon (talk) 05:14, 31 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi Raeven112! Just ignore the overabundance of warnings above - you are not about to be blocked, and it didn't need to be escalated like that. Thank you for your work in updating the population statistics for various towns - it is difficult to keep these up to date. However, when making the changes, could you add the source you use as well? You don't need to be too specific, although if you can add the full details that would be great. Many people like to use the templates. At the top of your editing window you should see a "Cite" option. If you click on that and choose "Cite web" from the templates it will give you a little form to fill out.

If that's a problem, and this can be confusing, the simplest solution is just to add the url, as per:

<ref>https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/fact/table/kunacityidaho/PST045217</ref>

It isn't ideal, but we need some sort of link to be able to check information. There's a video explaining this at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m2HFdEtYDyc

Once again, thanks for your work, and if you have any questions just let me know. I'd love it if you could keep updating population statistics, and I'm happy to help where I can. - Bilby (talk) 22:53, 1 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Please stop adding unsourced content, as you did on Las Cruces, New Mexico. This violates Wikipedia's policy on verifiability. If you continue to do so, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. You've recieved bad advice above. If you change referenced content, you must provide a source to verify your change. If it is exactly the same reference (which is NOT the case here) that has itself updated since it was originally placed (to repeat, not the case here), you still need to indicate that by changing the access date in the reference template. Referencing

edit

Hi! I tried writing some more instructions on how to reference, but it ends up that it just isn't easy. However, it seems to me that you are mostly changing town and county data using the US Census' estimated 2018 figures, which is a useful thing to do. Given that, when you change a county's data, you can just use:

|estyear=2018
|estimate=28223<br />
|estref=<ref name="USCensusEst2018">{{cite web|url=https://www.census.gov/data/tables/time-series/demo/popest/2010s-counties-total.html|title=County Population Totals and Components of Change: 2010-2018|work=United States Census Bureau|accessdate=June 2, 2019}}</ref>

If you use that, you only need to change the accessdate (June 2, 2019 in the above) to the current date. Similarly, with towns the reference you need is:

|estyear=2018
|estimate=1792
|estref=<ref name="USCensusEst2018">{{cite web|url=https://www.census.gov/programs-surveys/popest/data/tables.2018.html|title=Population and Housing Unit Estimates||work=United States Census Bureau|accessdate=June 2, 2019}}</ref>

If you need any help just let me know. - Bilby (talk) 03:30, 3 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Page blanking

edit

Hi! I'm not sure why you blanked John from Idegon's user talk, but it was inappropriate. John was correct on the importance of adding references when updating data, and while your figures were correct, we need links to allow people to follow this up in the future. As mentioned, I'm happy to help with updating the statistics, but unfortunately vandalism is something that will get this account blocked. If you need any help just leave a message here and I'll do whatever I can to assist, but blanking pages as you did isn't something that can continue. - Bilby (talk) 01:51, 5 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Just a note for the future, I filed this report after rolling back the vandalism. Had I not informed Bilby, this account likely would have been blocked already. Bilby has been extremely kind and patient, but Communication is required. There will likely not be any further warnings beyond this point. –MJLTalk 02:04, 5 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
