Wikibooks:Maintenance

As well as editing, many people at Wikibooks are involved in maintenance tasks. Most of these tasks can be done by any user, not just administrators. Maintenance work is a vital part of keeping Wikibooks running optimally. Please, help us make Wikibooks a better project!

Deletions	Recent-changes patrolling
Candidates for speedy deletion - Read the Deletion policy first. If you are not an admin, insert {{delete|reason}}. Requests for deletion - This is where discussion about books that don't fall under the criteria for speedy deletions, but have none the less been nominated for deletion. Copyright violations - These will be deleted after a week if the contributor does not provide permission from the copyright holder to use the work.	New pages - Check for very short pages, use {{delete}} to mark pages for speedy deletion, place {{query}} on pages that might just be in a transition stage to becoming real books and categorise uncategorised modules. Recent changes of anonymous users - Your first place to look for spam and vandalism. Should you find a few good edits by an anonymous user, consider adding {{joinus}} to their talk page to encourage him or her to create an account here. Newbies' contributions - Verify edits by new users, insert {{subst:welcome}} or {{subst:bigwelcome|~~~~}} to welcome them (we don't add welcome text to users without any edits).
Transwikis	File issues
Pages to be transwikied - These are pages that are to be transferred to another wiki. Requests for import - These are pages that are to be imported to Wikibooks. Only admins can do the actual import, but all Wikibookians are welcome to comment on requests. Transwikis needing a home - These are pages transwikied here that may be useful to merge into an appropriate book. Pages needing to be dewikified - When appropriate these pages may be dewikified. Pages that do not meet our inclusion requirements may be marked for deletion.	Unused files - Look for duplicates, nonsense, and copyright violations, and tag them accordingly. Category:NowCommons & Category:NowCommons (different filename) - Images now available on Commons that can be deleted from Wikibooks. Files with unknown copyright status - These will be deleted after a week if the author does not provide proper license information. Files with no non-free use rationale - These will be deleted after a week if the uploader does not provide a full non-free use rationale. Files lacking an author - These files need information on who created them in the first place. Files with unknown source - These files need information as to where they came from.

For these tasks, see Wikibooks:CCO Resources. Uncategorized Pages - Pages that have not been organized yet. Uncategorized Categories Categories that aren't categorized yet. The only uncategorized category should be Category:Categories. Uncategorized Templates Templates that aren't categorized. Uncategorized Images Images that aren't categorized. Alphabetical: Uncategorized Books that aren't properly categorized for WB:ABC. Category:Uncategorized books Books that need to be added to the appropriate subject pages.	Accuracy and NPOV disputes Pages needing attention need work like fixing wikicode, spelling, layout etc. Orphaned pages are not linked to by any other pages. They often contain old vandalisms, useless content or their content was copied elsewhere. If they are useful, link them to a bookshelf or other book. Otherwise tag them for deletion. Short pages - if page is blank and not linked (check "What links here") and was not vandalised (check page history), it can be safely deleted Duplicate modules Queried pages - If it appears that a stub was created in error or want to check with the author to see if it will soon be expanded, use the template {{qr-em}} to tag it; the page will be automatically listed in the speedy deletions after 7 days. Administrative assistance
History merge requests - Requests for history merges. Protected edit requests - Requests for edits to protected pages. Requests for unblock - Requests by users to be unblocked.
