Would you please explain this? Thanks. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 21:59, 21 July 2018 (UTC)

Hi Anna the word Bananus is the common word for the black tip on the bottom of a banana. I searched Wikipedia and could not find a reference to this word. Urban dictionary is the source of the definition and between the time I posted the word and went to retrieve the ref the word was removed. Your guidance on getting the word posted on the banana page would be greatly appreciated. Orangecones (talk) 23:09, 21 July 2018 (UTC)
:I've never heard of the term. Urban dictionary is a lousy source. You wrote "...Black tip on the bottom of the banana is called the "bananus"..." without stating that it is a slang term. Even if it is a common, slang term, I doubt it would ever be considered appropriate to have in the article. It is simply unencyclopedic. See also: WP:RS. Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, Orangecones, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, one or more of the pages you created, such as From Boxing Insider, may not conform to some of Wikipedia's guidelines, and may not be retained.

There's a page about creating articles you may want to read called Your first article. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the Teahouse, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type help me on this page, followed by your question, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Questions or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! KJ Discuss? 22:22, 19 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on From Boxing Insider, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which articles can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may be soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:

 • It is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. (See section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Wikipedia has standards for the minimum necessary information to be included in short articles; you can see these at Wikipedia:Stub. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
 • It is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. (See section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Wikipedia has standards for the minimum necessary information to be included in short articles; you can see these at Wikipedia:Stub. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. A tag has been placed on File:2001 airmail stamp C137.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. ww2censor (talk) 22:06, 23 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Surnames and minor edits

[edit]

I've reverted your recent changes to Pete Ricketts. Per WP:SURNAME and WP:SAMESURNAME, the subject of the article should be referred to by surname alone after the first mention, unless the subsequent mention is part of a list of persons with the same surname. You might want to look those passages over and make sure you haven't made any other edits contrary thereto.

Also, I note that you marked your changes as minor edits. Before you check that minor-edits box again, you should read WP:MINOR, which tells when it's OK to mark an edit as minor. Basically, the only time you should do so is when it's inconceivable that any editor could object to your edit for any reason. This is almost never; the only time I'd use it would be when correcting an obvious misspelling (e.g. "teh" instead of "the"), or correcting an indisputable punctuation or formatting error (adding a period to the end of a sentence, or the missing second close-bracket to a Wikilink).

The minor-edits thing is potentially problematic because some editors have their watchlists set up to ignore minor edits. To such an editor, your marking an edit as minor when it wasn't might look like an attempt to sneak through a potentially controversial change.

Basically, it never hurts not to check the minor-edit box, and it can cause misunderstandings if you check it when you shouldn't. I'd recommend never checking it, and tend to ignore its existence myself. — Ammodramus (talk) 18:20, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I am doing research on the Cubs and keeping track of the owners was easier by listing full names in each and every situation. I apologize for going overboard. I really enjoy helping out as an editor and hope my contribution helps with keeping things in a correct manner and I will not check the minor edit box ..... Orangecones (talk) 23:12, 24 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the reply. No need to apologize; there're lots of Wikipedia policies and conventions, and it takes time to learn them all. — Ammodramus (talk) 11:40, 25 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I do not know if 1950ies or 1950's would be better Orangecones (talk) 22:47, 24 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have studied the lane numbers trying to figure out if HOV then 1 then 2 then 3 to the shoulder is correct. I call on my OnStar quite ofter to report accidents and I do not know if there is an adopted standard for number lanes when reporting the lane choice for an accident. Does this make sense? Orangecones (talk) 22:52, 24 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

For something like your question about the decade, it's a good idea to check the WP manual of style, which you can find at WP:MOS. For this situation, Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style#Years_and_longer_periods calls for "1950s", with no apostrophe. (I'd personally use "1950's" in my non-WP writing, but when I'm editing WP, I have to abide by WP conventions.) — Ammodramus (talk) 11:47, 25 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Gorch Fock (1958), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Tovarishch. Reliable sources needed for changes or additions

Information icon Hello, I'm 32.218.41.207. I noticed that you made a change to an article, Knapp, Dunn County, Wisconsin, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Speedy deletion nomination of American automotive history

[edit]

Hello Orangecones,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged American automotive history for deletion, because it appears to duplicate an existing Wikipedia article, Automotive industry in the United States.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Xx236 (talk) 10:12, 22 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Your contributed article, Automotive world history

[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Automotive world history. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – List of automobile manufacturers. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at List of automobile manufacturers – you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. 331dot (talk) 00:57, 23 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please don't change the format of dates, as you did to Buckskin Girl. As a general rule, if an article has evolved using predominantly one format, the dates should be left in the format they were originally written in, unless there are reasons for changing it based on strong national ties to the topic. Please also note that Wikipedia does not use ordinal suffixes (e.g., st, nd, th), articles, or leading zeros on dates.

For more information about how dates should be written on Wikipedia, please see this page.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Nan peterson. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – :Frontier Circus. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at :Frontier Circus – you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". EvergreenFir (talk) 18:28, 5 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Salvatore Sparacio requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Ways to improve List of onions

[edit]

Hi, I'm Boleyn. Orangecones, thanks for creating List of onions!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. This has been tagged for 3 issues.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse.

[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Pima County, Arizona, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Twin Buttes, Arizona (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 09:11, 16 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much for your help to let me know of this error. You are the best. Orangecones (talk) 19:17, 16 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you.... the error is corrected and fixed as I was unaware of the crossover link Orangecones (talk) 19:24, 16 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The above message was left by a bot. It's unaware of your replies and since it's just bits and bytes, thanking it is not needed. John from Idegon (talk) 01:22, 19 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you John I appreciate your input. Orangecones (talk) 04:17, 19 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

List of onions

[edit]

Thank you for your interest in improving wikipedia. Unfortunately I had to remove the the test you added. First, we already have an extensive set tools for navigation in the onion world. Second, you added "list of onions" in several improper places, such as Whole sour cabbage. Also, all onion-related pages include the "onion-listing" template (Allium) you failed to notice.

In the future, please pay more attention to what already exists in wikipedia, especially on common subjects. Staszek Lem (talk) 23:53, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your guidance. Sounds good. The current List of onions page looks good. Thank you again. Orangecones (talk) 23:58, 21 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Bananus

[edit]

Would you please explain this? Thanks. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 21:59, 21 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Orangecones (talk) 23:09, 21 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I've never heard of the term. Best wishes, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 00:12, 22 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Draft:Thomas Mall requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://azmemory.azlibrary.gov/digital/collection/pmhbd/id/511/. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Hi Gene @Gene93k: I noticed there is information about all the Malls around Phoenix but nothing regarding Thomas Mall. Is there another way to create an article. Can you help me in the creation process. I know Thomas Mall was big time and nothing about the mall or its presents anywhere on Wikipedia. I have done many edits and would appreciate your guidance and support. Thank you so much for your help Orangecones (talk) 02:11, 8 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
