Background and release

After his BZRP Music Sessions with the Argentine artist Tiago PZK, It was announced at the beginning of February 2022 that another BZRP Music Sessions could come out, and finally, in March of that same year, the singer was invited Residente, for the new song.[1]

Composition

Running at a length of over eight minutes, it is Bizarrap's longest Music Session.[2] The song is split in three "chapters"; in its first chapter "En Un Lugar de la Mancha" (lit. transl. In place of the spot), Residente states he feels unsettled as he watches over the Latin urban genre and compares himself to "a crocodile who creeps out of the Nile River."[3]

Music video

The music video was released on March 2, 2022 and it exceeded 100 million views in over two months.

Two singles were released from the album—"JS4E" and "La Jumpa"—and were positioned in several charts. Its lead single, which is an acronym for "Justin Santos 4 Ever", peaked at number 23 on the US Hot Latin Songs chart, while its second single peaked at number three on the same chart, also peaking at number 68 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 14 on the Billboard Global 200 charts; it also received several nominations and was certified four times platinum by Productores de Música de España.

Background

Arcángel told Billboard that he was originally supposed to release an EP on November 2021 but plans for its release would be cancelled after hearing about the death of his brother, Justin Santos, who died in a car accident.

Promotion

Singles

"JS4E" was released on November 21, 2022, as the lead single for Sr. Santos. The single, as well as an accompanying music video, was released as a tribute to the singer's brother Justin Santos.[1] The song peaked at number 23 on the US Hot Latin Songs chart.

"La Jumpa" with Bad Bunny was released on November 30, 2022, as the second single for Sr. Santos.[2] The song attained commercial success, as well as critical acclaim and chartings in multiple countries such as the United States, Spain, and Portugal. "La Jumpa" debuted and peaked at number 68 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 14 on the Billboard Global 200.

Commerical performance

In the United States, Sr. Santos debuted and peaked at number three on the Top Latin Albums and number two on the Latin Rhythm Albums chart, with 19,000 album-equivalent units sold in its first weeks. The album debuted at number 37 on the Billboard 200. The album also reached the top 10 on the Spanish Albums Chart.

It features guest appearances from Lil Wayne, Future, 50 Cent, Bad Bunny, Myke Towers, Quavo, Rich the Kid, Ñengo Flow, Lil Tjay, Luar la L, and Fivio Foreign.

Two singles were released from the album; the remix version of "Mbappe", with American rapper Future, was released on March 9, 2023, and "Air France" was released on March 14, 2023. Critical reception

Chosen upon release as "Best New Track", Pitchfork described the song as a "new direction for [Beach House], with subtle changes to their distinct sound that signal a sharpening of the band’s typically soft edges."[4]

Corridos tumbados

Corridos tumbados (also known as trap corridos) is a musical style and subgenre of regional Mexican music, with elements of urbano music. It was popularized in the 2020s, among the Mexican and Mexican-American communities.

By early 2023, corridos tumbados managed to achieve international recognition due to the positioning of artists such as Peso Pluma, Junior H, and groups such as Eslabon Armado, Yahritza y su Esencia, and Fuerza Regida on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Songs such as "AMG", "Ella Baila Sola", and "Chanel have been placed on Billboard charts and Spotify playlists.

American norteño band Grupo Frontera released a live cover of "No Se Va", on April 28, 2022, as the lead single and lead track of the EP of the same name, alternatively titled No Se Va (En Vivo), which follows the band's debut En Vivo, Vol. 1. The song was included in the band's debut studio album El Comienzo (2023), as its lead single and first track.

Composition

The cover version is a norteño song, and incorparates elements of Tejano music and cumbias.[1]
