Free Stars: Children of Infinity is the upcoming sequel to Free Stars: The Ur-Quan Masters (also known as Star Control 2).[1]

Development

After leaving Toys for Bob, Paul Reiche III and Fred Ford formed Pistol Shrimp Games, under which they are currently developing Free Stars: Children of Infinity. As Stardock now owns the rights to the game name Star Control, Reiche and Ford are unable to use the Star Control name, and have renamed the franchise they are working on to Free Stars.[2] Reiche and Ford, however, still own the rights to the names of the alien races to Star Control and Star Control II.[3]

In order to create awareness of the franchise's new name, Pistol Shrimp released The Ur-Quan Masters as Free Stars: The Ur-Quan Masters for free on Steam on February 19, 2024.[4]

The debut trailer launched on April 4, 2024.[2]

The campaign to fund the game launched on Kickstarter on April 16, 2024.[1]
