Adin David Ross (born October 11, 2000) is an American internet personality and online streamer. He is known for his collaborations with celebrities and livestreams of the NBA 2K and Grand Theft Auto V video games.[5] He previously streamed on Twitch before signing a deal with Kick in 2023.[6]
Early life
Adin David Ross was born to Jewish parents on October 11, 2000, in Boca Raton, Florida.[7] He moved to New York City for a brief period of time, but decided to live in Three Rivers, California.[8] Ross had an interest in streaming from a young age and has stated that he skipped his high school prom to stream on Twitch.[9]
Ross revealed on a No Jumper interview with Adam22 that at 12 years old he was stabbed in his sleep by a mentally unstable relative. Ross had nine stitches in his arm while the relative went to jail, later being admitted to a mental hospital.[10]
Career
Ross began regularly streaming on Twitch while living with his sister Naomi Ross.[11] He eventually joined an NBA 2K group called Always Excelling and met Bronny James through it. He gained popularity by playing NBA 2K20 with James and doing wager matches with other streamers and YouTubers.[12] In 2020, Ross was streaming with Bronny when LeBron James joined in on the call, which would later be uploaded on his Twitter page.[13]
In December 2022, Ross was in talks to interview Kanye West following his controversial remarks about Jewish people,[14] but decided not to do so[15] after West reportedly told Ross on a phone call: "you Jews aren't going to tell me what I can and can't say".[16]
On February 23, 2023, just two days before Ross's permanent ban on Twitch[17], he announced that he was permanently moving from Twitch to Kick.[18]
On April 17, 2024, Ross announced that he would be retiring from streaming.[19] However, he would return to streaming a day later and proceeded to criticize Kick and expressed his desire to return to Twitch.[20]
Controversies
Ross began streaming on Kick, and generated controversy for livestreaming Super Bowl LVII[21] and opening the Pornhub website while streaming.[22]
Ross was involved in a Twitch "hot-tub stream" controversy[clarification needed] with popular streamer Amouranth.[23][24]
On March 4, 2024, Ross dared a 19-year-old man to drive his car into the Burrard Inlet at Rocky Point Park in Port Moody, British Columbia, Canada. After the police were notified, the man was arrested at the scene. The incident received negative attention from those who visit the park.[25][26][27]
Twitch bans
On April 10, 2021, Ross was banned from Twitch after YouTuber Zias answered a phone call and called Ross a homophobic slur. [28] Ross defended himself from the ban by claiming to Twitch staff that he did not say the word and was not in the room at the time. Twitch clarified that based on this information he would be allowed to stream.[29] His followers started trending the hashtag #FreeAdin on Twitter in an attempt to pressure Twitch's decision.[30] His ban was lifted on April 12, 2021.[31]
Over a year later, on April 20, 2022, Ross was banned indefinitely due to the use of "hateful slurs or symbols", owing to Ross's use of a homophobic slur on Twitch streamer YourRAGE's livestream.[32] He was able to later resume streaming in June 2022.[33]
Ross was banned from Twitch for the eighth time on February 25, 2023, this time permanently, for "hateful conduct", after he showed his unmoderated Kick live chat on stream, which was flooded with racist and antisemitic messages by viewers.[34]
Andrew Tate
After influencer Andrew Tate was arrested in Romania on December 29, 2022,[35][36] five people had been authorized to visit Tate in detention, including Ross, who said he was flying to Romania,[37] but was denied access by the Romanian government.[38] Ross tweeted, "Joe Biden please go ahead and pardon Andrew Tate".[39]
In March 2024, Ross claimed that Tate had told him "I'm gonna be leaving Romania soon and probably never coming back", resulting in Tate and his brother Tristan being arrested to prevent them from fleeing the country.[40][41] Ross publicly apologized to Tate during a livestream, saying that he "really really fucked up".[42]
