The Frosty is the trademark frozen dairy dessert of Wendy's fast-food restaurants. The dessert can be compared to a thick milkshake or slightly melted soft-serve ice cream. There are many different variations on the dessert.
History
When the first Wendy's opened in 1969, chocolate was the only flavor available. The actual flavor of the original Frosty is half-vanilla, half-chocolate. Dave Thomas thought that 100% chocolate was too overpowering a flavor when paired with a Wendy's burger and fries meal. [1] The second Frosty flavor, vanilla, was introduced in 2006.[2]A new Frosty version called the Vanilla Frosty Float, in which vanilla frosty is mixed with the customer's choice of soda, was introduced in 2007. The dessert is available in six sizes: Jr. (6 oz.), small (12 oz.), medium (16 oz.), large (20 oz.), Xtra Large (32 oz.), and Huge (42 oz.) Frosties are served at 20 °F +/-1 ideally. [3]
Variations
Chocolate
The chocolate Frosty is the original dairy dessert offered by Wendy's, and was sold for $0.35. The flavor was actually half chocolate and half vanilla, and Dave would mix the two flavors together in the machine. The flavor needed to be just right, so that the taste of a customer's hamburger was not overpowered. [4]
Vanilla
The vanilla Frosty is a pure vanilla flavored version of the dessert, and was introduced in July, 2006 due to frequent customer requests. [5]
Fix 'n Mix Frosty
Introduced in 2005, the Fix 'n Mix is available in chocolate or vanilla. The customer has their choice of either a packet of M&Ms, Butterfinger Chips or Oreo Chips, which they can "Fix and Mix" into the Frosty.
The Vanilla Frosty Float is a root beer float style dessert. See Vanilla Frosty Float
Twisted Frosty
Twisted Frostys are available in either chocolate or vanilla, and contain either Oreo bits or M&Ms. They are served in an 8oz size, and are similar to a McFlurry
