Hello Arbiteroftruth! I'm rather confused by your outside view on this RfC: "''we have to show EVERYONE that sockpuppetry will only bring forward their end on Wikipedia.''" - Posturewriter hasn't been accused of sockpuppetry. He made an accusation that another user was using a sock puppet (which is one of the complaints against him at the RfC), was that what you were getting at? Apologies if I'm being dense here! Happy editing. : Sorry still lost here! "''He is accused of using a sock account, and we can't stand for that.''" Posturewriter (whose RfC it is) is not accused of using a sock account. The only mention of sock puppetry in this RfC is Posturewriter accusing WhatamIdoing and Gordonofcartoon, two of the editors bringing the RfC against Posturewriter, of being socks. This accusation with minimal proof is one of the things that Gordonofcartoon is complaining about with the RfC and, while totally out of order, I don't feel merits a block but an apology. Just to say again, nobody has accused Posturewriter of having a sock account. [[WP:SOCK]] doesn't even appear in the relevant policies and guidelines section. If I'm making a mistake here, just point me to it! Fair use rationale for Image:HughDownsSchool.gif

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:HughDownsSchool.gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Angr 17:40, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Venue suggestion needed for a meet-up in Yuen Long

WP:CVU status

The Wikipedia:Counter-Vandalism Unit project is under consideration to be moved to {{inactive}} and/or {{historical}} status. You have been identified as a project member and your input as to this matter would be welcomed at WT:CVU#Inactive.3F. Thank you. Delivered on behalf of user:xaosflux 01:15, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mongol khans

Hello. I noticed that you moved articles on Mongol khans (e.g. Khutughtu Khan) around June 2007. I sought in vain for your proposal for move. Where did you make a proposal and gain consensus? --Nanshu 00:10, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's me who set up the previous naming format (X khan) "to bring some uniformity" (from Chinggis to Ligden). And personally, I don't like the current format because it's verbose and inconsistent with later khans like Dayan Khan. I think it's time to discuss the naming convention. But there is a problem: Where to discuss? Wikipedia talk:History standards for China-related articles or Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (Mongolian)? (Welcome to sectionalism!) Maybe Talk:Yuan Dynasty is a compromise. --Nanshu 23:06, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for my overreaction (Talk:Seoul)

I am sorry for making it sound like you were pushing a POV. In fact, your other addition was very interesting and I enjoyed reading it. Please don't hesitate to add more informations whenever you find them. ^.^; Yongjik 04:45, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Legislative violence

I removed a large deal of content from Legislative violence relating to Taiwan. Wikipedia guidelines state that a) examples should be used to illustrate a point rather than being the bulk of the article (I think 2 major incidents does a good a job as 20 minor ones) and b) undue weight should not be given to an issue or side of an issue over others (given that Korea only has one entry and that Australia has none I think we can agree that the section on Taiwan was, by this definition, overly lengthy). Perhaps you could consider implementing some change to the original article on the Chinese wikipedia in adherence to these guidelines. Just thought I'd let you know 58.164.33.106 12:14, 8 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No personal attacks

Greetings. I noticed you templated Videmus Omnia to warn him not to make personal attacks. I haven't known Videmus Omnia to act that way, in my experience. Could you provide me a link of where he made a personal attack? Thanks, – Quadell (talk) (random) 00:10, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. I noticed that you have recently uploaded some non-free images of living people (e.g. Image:Presjobim.jpg and Image:Foto_viegas.gif). Unfortunately, these sorts of images violate our first fair use criterion in that they illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could be created that provides substantially the same information. If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. – Quadell (talk) (random) 04:17, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
(P.P.S. I see now that those uploads weren't recent; they were done back in July. My mistake. – Quadell (talk) (random) 04:36, 9 October 2007 (UTC))[reply]

My Revert on the Current Events Page

I assumed that you made a good faith edit. I just couldn't figure out what you were doing. --Elliskev 12:26, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AIV

Colorwolf only has one edit, to his own page, today and 203 none. This doesn't fit AIV criteria. My suggestion is to rm from AIV and take to WP:SSP with as much detail as possible, with diffs, on why you think it's a sock. Rlevse 16:30, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Do you think LongPeanutButter is a sock of Colorwolf? If so, report per Rlevse above, because the user hasn't vandalized since final warning was given. I can block on proof of sock, so if you have anything conclusive, drop me a note... Dreadstar 03:29, 26 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Presjobim.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Presjobim.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 15:38, 20 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Removing Warnings

Regarding this edit, note that WP:USER states "Policy does not prohibit users from removing comments from their own talk pages, although archiving is preferred. The removal of a warning is taken as evidence that the warning has been read by the user. Deleted warnings can still be found in the page history.". Just a heads-up. Image source problem with Image:Seoige TnaG.jpg

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Seoige TnaG.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 16:58, 21 November 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Angr 16:58, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use Image:Seoige TnaG.jpg

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Seoige TnaG.jpg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Angr 16:58, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Kenny, I agree that this subject is not notable, but I would urge you to use more considerate language in such AfDs. Regular editors of Wikipedia will understand what you mean when you say "was, still is, and forever will be non-notable person", but it is possible that the creator of this page is someone who was close to Ms Karhohs, and does not understand the technical use of non-notable, in which case your wording could be very upsetting. How about something on the lines of "subject does not qualify for inclusion under WP:BIO"? Phil Bridger (talk) 13:11, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:ATV Old Logo.png. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI 23:22, 1 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism warning to User_talk:207.138.65.1

This is a large corporations IP. I would recommend not banning it... although there isn't much I can do to track down whoelse in the company might be pwning the wikipedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.138.65.1 (talk) 21:55, 5 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

    • I noticed that your edit history showed using an escalated template in several instances so thought you might not be aware of the multi-level template system - apologies for any offence that might have been caused. Regards Matilda talk 04:45, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
      • I believed that both the edit summary and the context of my previous, now refactored, note made it clear that the warnings were illustrative and not directed at you. I do remain concerned that you do not understand your warnings are in general pitched at an inapproriate level and breach WP:AGF. Of yourlast 50 edits to the User talk name space, at least 14 appear to be escalated warnings with no use of multi-level templates before hand - haven't comprehensively researched your edits (have better things to do). Your warning to this user in particular caught my eye (because I reverted to replace your warning) and I thought it over the top. Please reconsider. Note also your advice to User:LighteningKid "Removing warnings are prohibited" is not strictly correct - you perhaps need also to familiarise yourself with Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines : On your own user talk page, you may remove comments from others . You are of course welcome to remove my comments too! --Matilda talk 06:36, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pop music

Hey, Arbiteroftruth, I'd like to ask for a favour in your capacity as Chinese-English translator. I'm working on a complete re-write of Pop music and when I recently moved the text from my sandbox to the article, the format of the link to the Chinese-language Wikipedia was lost. I don't have Chinese fonts on my system so am unable to fix it myself, would you be as kind as to correct it for me when you have the time? You can go straight to the appropriate section here. Thank you very much. ↔ Dennywuh (talk) 15:29, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on The Golden Path (drama)‎ . Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions in a content dispute within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform a large number of reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring, even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing. Please do not repeatedly revert edits, but use the talk page to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. Re: Juggernaut999, Other Affairs

Re your message: I'm not familiar with that particular sockpuppeteer, though it does sound vaguely familiar. With the account being inactive for so long, WP:ANI is not the appropriate place to report it. Instead, you should report it to WP:SSP.

As for your question about adminship, I remember you asking me about this last year and I think my comments then still apply now. I think you should find some part of Wikipedia that interests you where an admin work is required, such as RC patrolling, deletion discussions, policy discussions, etc. I think your assistance with ColourWolf is good, but you need to expand beyond him and his sockpuppets. Perhaps help with other sockpuppet reports? -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 23:01, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I moved the RFCU case you opened to its proper name (we keep all requests about a puppeteer on a single page). -- lucasbfr talk, checkuser clerk, 09:17, 22 January 2008 (UTC).[reply]

...on ColourWolf. I wasn't trying to be an ass, but I simply didn't know those plots. I've not seen many films in that genre and your analysis (plus the results of the CU) were very helpful. Thanks for helping to keep people accountable for their actions when they are in violation.

Mind if I ask why my deletion of some content in that article was reverted? I did give an explanation in my edit summaries. The article is of course in a pretty bad state but I don't think that warrants keeping around what I deleted. Sincerely. 3rdAlcove (talk) 17:40, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, sorry for starting the section as well. Too much reverting by POV-pushers just makes you cranky and you take it out on random people. ;) 3rdAlcove (talk) 20:02, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:TheGoldenPath.jpeg.

STBotI (talk) 03:44, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

ColourWolf Sockpuppetry

Very interesting. I've observed that you have reverted/deleted all the negative viewpoints of Singapore Wikipedia articles that the supposed ColourWolf user have voiced out. Is that good discussion on improving the integrity of Wikipedia? Isn't that what you are protecting as you voiced out to Administrators months ago?

Like I said, it doesn't matter I'm ColourWolf or not. I'm a Nosey Fellow who has nothing better to do other than reading articles, and happened to see the war of truth between you and ColourWolf which got pretty amusing - Both disputed contents and the war itself. You have no concrete evidence of suspecting me, and you probably never will.

I could simply give the reason for posting in that SGpedian section: I was bored and my hands itch at seeing how you refused to give thought to the idea of deleting those content-less Singapore articles. Have a nice day. Nosey Fellow (talk) 03:37, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Change to Len Munsil's Page

Arbiteroftruth: I noticed that you recently removed the reference on the Len Munsil page that divulged Munsil's position as an adjunct professor at Southwestern College. Why is that?

Hiya. What's this about me being a sockpuppet? I looked at the checkuser page or whatever it's called and other than the fact this guy's used the name RedEyes at some point there isn't anything connecting us, as I've never edited the articles he was messing around with. Do I need to take any specific steps to prove my independence or anything? Thanks. EvilRedEye (talk) 15:14, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Uncyclopedia FA Nom

Basically, your arguement revolves around the idea that giving the article on Uncyclopedia any recognition will give vandals recognition. That is not the case. If we followed WP:DENY completely, any website that harboured Wikipedia vandals would never get an article. Uncyclopedia is perfectly notable, as has been proven from its nine AFDs (many of which one of which were was started by you, I believe). By attempting to follow WP:DENY completely, you're just contradicting yourself by violating WP:Notability. Rules are in place for a reason, and I don't usually ignore them unless neccesary, but following them threadbare won't get anything done. And by bringing in "the spirit of the rule", you're using WP:WL as your backbone, which is not a policy, it is an essay, so none of us are obliged to follow it.

Secondly, you did launch an attack. I quote from FAC: "Uncyclopedia editors have done nothing but creating damage and destruction on Wikipedia". Does that sound neutral? Not to me. It sounds like you're giving a blatant attack on Uncyclopedia editors. I cannot allow that, so of course I retailiated. I did not violate WP:AGF, I felt that there was evidence to the contrary- after it had been proven MANY TIMES that the article in question was notable, you continued to nominated it for deletion. As per my previous arguements, WP:DENY and WP:WL will not work in this case. Teh Rote (talk) 22:43, 23 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That was a simple mistake, no need to accuse me of anything. I have talked to a third-party editor about this and hopefully this dispute can be resolved with additional help. Teh Rote (talk) 01:05, 24 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No problem, it's cool. Mind if I remove the CAPS LOCK AND BOLD from your messages? :D Teh Rote (talk) 14:26, 24 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Mass Sockpuppet Problem

Re your message: I'm not a checkuser, so I can't help with that. Sorry. You will have to wait until one of the checkuser admins can look into it. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 05:32, 27 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re your message: Thatcher is a checkuser. Since he has access to the checkuser results and I do not, you will need to ask him why he did not apply any blocks. For the same reason, I would prefer to defer to Thatcher in this particular case. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 05:50, 27 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:ASUDowntown.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:ASUDowntown.gif. You've indicated that the image meets Wikipedia's criteria for non-free content, but there is no explanation of why it meets those criteria. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. If you have any questions, please post them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

Thank you for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 20:20, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:ATV Master logo.jpg}

Thank you for uploading Image:ATV Master logo.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Orphaned non-free image (Image:ASUDowntown.gif)

⚠

Thanks for uploading Image:ASUDowntown.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Re:Article Split proposal, Republic of China

I conditionally concur with your proposed Split, on grounds of available information on the ROC pre- and post-1949. Fr.Wikipedia.org kept pre-1949 stuff in the original Article fr:République de Chine and moved later material to fr:République de Chine (Taiwan), an alternate approach to your proposal. An alternate approach would be the concentration of post-1949 material in a new Article Republic of China (Taiwan), with the pre-1949 (incl. the government structure under the Zūn Zhōngshān and Jiǎng Jièshí Administrations) data kept at the existing Republic of China Article. Recommend redirect Chinese Taipei, used without international diplomatic circles, to the post-1949 Article. B. C. Schmerker (talk) 07:36, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Names of Census Articles

I have opened a discussion at Talk:United States Census, 2000#Requested move about renaming all the year-specific US Census articles. I see that you are active on the Census 2000 article, so I am requesting your input. -Rrius (talk) 06:08, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Advice

Check out your edits. See all those red bars? Use edit summaries! Go to your "preferences" at the top of the page, click "editing" then check the bottom box "Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary". You need good experience in the areas where admins are active. I see you've contributed to WP:AN/WP:AN/I and WP:AIV. Experience in *fD is helpful, e.g. WP:AFD being the main one. Read through past applications, successful and unsuccessful, at WP:RFA to get an idea of what is expected and what is disapproved of. You might like to check out Wikipedia:Admin coaching. Userfy Template:Arbiteroftruth/hk-fam2

Greetings. Please move Template:Arbiteroftruth/hk-fam2 and any other personal templates that you have created into your user pages. Template:Arbiteroftruth/hk-fam2 does not support encyclopedic content, so it is not really appropriate for the template namespace. You can still use the template as before once you move it, either directly by typing {{User:Arbiteroftruth/YourNewPagename}} along with any parameters when using it on your user pages, or by using {{subst}} with the appropriate syntax and parameters when using it in other namespaces. Thanks. --Thetrick (talk) 03:51, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your report to AIV has been declined

Thank you for your recent report to AIV. After investigating the situation, the edits in question strike me as being classic newbie mistakes, so I have declined your block request. Unfortunately for Ab3214 (talk · contribs), he or she received neither an assumption of good faith nor a friendly helping hand, but instead appears to have been bitten with {{uw-npa4im}} and {{uw-vandalism4}} warnings. Additionally you may wish to redact these comments as they appear to be extremely incivil and border on being an outright personal attack. I know how frustrating it can be to work around a new editor's lack of understanding as to the ways and methods of Wikipedia, but everyone starts out ignorant as to the rules and it is up to the rest of us to help educate them. --Kralizec! (talk) 02:31, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No worries ... we all have bad days and I absolutely agree with you about how exhausting socks can be. Regardless, thank you! for being so positive and pleasant to work with. Too many editors lack your level-head judgement and capacity for introspection, and instead go ballistic when someone has the audacity to tell them that they may have jumped the AGF gun. Kudos to you, sir! --Kralizec! (talk) 03:13, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the warning!

I was trying to cleave as closely as possible to authoritative sourcing on the IndyMac thing, given the hulabaloo and the fact that I was pretty darn sloppy when I first edited.

Just for future reference, where do you think I went past "fair use"???--Dlawbailey (talk) 22:48, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Arbiteroftruth! I'm rather confused by your outside view on this RfC: "we have to show EVERYONE that sockpuppetry will only bring forward their end on Wikipedia." - Posturewriter hasn't been accused of sockpuppetry. He made an accusation that another user was using a sock puppet (which is one of the complaints against him at the RfC), was that what you were getting at? Apologies if I'm being dense here! Happy editing. AvnjayTalk 18:32, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry still lost here! "He is accused of using a sock account, and we can't stand for that." Posturewriter (whose RfC it is) is not accused of using a sock account. WP:SOCK doesn't even appear in the relevant policies and guidelines section. If I'm making a mistake here, just point me to it! Thanks, AvnjayTalk 10:57, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
