Press contact details

If you are receiving this message, you are either a new, existing, or possible future press contact for one of the languages you speak. What does this mean, being a press contact?

The Wikimedia Foundation runs a Communications Committee, which co-ordinates requests for interviews from the press. When we receive a request for an interview, often the journalist wants to interview someone that speaks their "native tongue", or someone that lives in the same country as their publication. For this reason, it is important the the Communications Committee keeps an up-to-date log of contributors that they can trust to represent the community in a professional manner.

This list of press contacts has started to grow. The goal is to eventually have at least one trusted user on the list from every country in the world, and one user for every language that the Foundation runs a project in.

What are your responsibilities? Whenever a journalist requests an interview, either by phone, by e-mail, or (rarely) in person, you are able to either answer the interview request, or pass the request off to another user that you trust. Whenever a newsworthy milestone is reached on your project, you should help co-ordinate the creation of a press release, and once it's ready, send it to me to post in your language's press room.

Any questions, comments, or concerns? Contact me directly. -- en:user_talk:zanimum

Hemanshu/try3

Hello, Hemanshu. Could you please modify User:Hemanshu/try3 so that it does not show up in Category:Possible copyright violations? Some user pages have copyright violations, so user pages in the category can't be ignored. Thanks, Kjkolb 07:47, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

List of people by name: Chb-Che

_ _ Your last two edits to this page have, as i noted in my summaries in reverting each of them, done nothing but remove a pilot project aimed at improving the usability of this and other LoPbN pages. This scheme has been in use on, IIRC, a couple of dozen pages, starting more than six months ago. No one has offered any criticism of it, and no one but you has given any sign of believing it is in any way problematic.
_ _ You have been one of a number diligent contributors of name entries to LoPbN, so you may have some insight that the rest of us have missed. But you cannot expect to be permitted to reverse this feature without discussing it on Talk:List of people by name. Please let us know what you think you are accomplishing by interfering with this innovation.

Hi Hemanshu,

It is very sad to see all the admins and bureaucrats of Hindi Wikipedia staying inactive for long periods of time. A lot of work is pending at Hindi Wikipedia. Please devote some time for it.

Urgent Request

Dear Himanshu ji,

I would like to bring something to your attention (a proposed deletion of a wikipedia article) and would like to request your help.

I have seen some of your contributions to the Kashmiri Pandit page, and I think you might have a good understanding of the issues involved. Please look at the article: India_Basher and views about its proposed deltion:Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/India_Basher. I am hoping to save the article. My contribution to the article is relatively small, but I think it is a valuable article.

I believe that those supporting deletion of the article are not familiar with the subject. Also, they may have made a decision while the article was still in its beginning stages. With your knowledge of India and its interaction with the world, you can probably make an informed decision about value of the article, and its accuracy. I will appreciate if you can share your thoughts at Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/India_Basher.

Dear Hemanshu, thanks for making me an admin at Hindi wiki. I can also be the bureaucrat, in case you wish to hand over the job to me. Of course, I will follow the established priciples of wikipedia. List of people by name: Talk about the intra-section bullets?

Hi,

I've been doing some work on LoPBN (adding massive numbers of entries via script - see the state of the T section for a result, User:Alvestrand/LoP Experiment for details). Jezry's been working quite hard on cleaning up the section headers and subdividing pages after the script has passed - something I couldn't make the script do.

I see that you have started deleting some of the "markup" separating entries on some LoPBN pages. Jezry and I have had a discussion about this - see Talk:List of people by name/Intra-page structure#Experimental Bullet-list Hierarchy, and also Talk:List of people by name/Intra-page structure#Section Hierarchy.

But since the discussion was basically one-on-one, we don't seem to have reached a conclusion where we don't agree - Jezry seems to have accepted my proposed guideline of "25 + 25", but we don't agree on sub-division bullets.

Do you want to contribute to the discussion, so that we can converge on "most of us like it this way"? --Alvestrand 06:21, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image Tagging Image:Bar-in-jk.gif

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Bar-in-jk.gif. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -SCEhardT 12:24, 1 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Durga Puja

Hi there, I've been busy disambiguating links to Punjab, and discovered that the articles Durga puja and Durga Puja are one and the same. I attempted to redirect the first to the second, but realised that different articles link to each one. Is it required of me to go through and change every single link on the articles that link to Durga puja, in order to redirect it to Durga Puja? Cheers! — the preceding signed comment was added by riana_dzastatc • 16:54, Friday November 15 2024 (UTC)

No worries, I only asked that because I tried redirecting it, and it wouldn't work. On the 5th go, it did... I'm not sure if I was doing something wrong. Oh well, it's fixed now. Cheers — the preceding signed comment was added by riana_dzastatc • 16:54, Friday November 15 2024 (UTC)

do u know somethin abt narlikar women

i know its not the place to ask personal questions, and u will be absolutely justified in not answering this. but i am putting this question to u since i needed to ask it from a knowledgeable mumbaikar (or bombayite) as u prefer.

i read Midnight's Children by Salman Rushdie and it mentions something about the mass reclamation drive in bombay around 1950s. since all its other references are real, (like sabarmati case to Kawas Nanavati case and all), i was wondering if Narlikar women too referred to some true peoples in bombay. if u have read the book or u have some knowledge of similar real incident in Bombay, please tell me.

Mahawiki

Hi dear Admin,

This is to bring to your notice the wiki-feud I've been having with User:Mahawiki for almost one month now. It started with the Belgaum page which went to mediation, warnings were handed out to both parties, and when Mahawiki's incivil ways continued, Admin:Bluyugen handed him a warning and then a block. Find that here.

I do not want to turn the clock back and go through all those content disputes again. Infact, I dont want to present to you the details of any content dispute we've had. All I want to present to you is the brazen incivility and personal attacks being committed by User:Mahawiki either in the course of his content disputes or even simply just out of spite.

All the diffs(exhibiting his incivility and personal attacks) I provide below are from AFTER, I REPEAT, "AFTER". ADMIN BLUGYUEN INTERVENED, WARNED ALL OF US, AND HANDED MAHAWIKI A BLOCK.

Please find below dozens of instances of blatant incivility and personal attacks by User:Mahawiki either on me or on User:Dineshkannambadi and all Kannadigas in general. His remarks are in extremely bad taste and counterproductive resulting in undermining of the good faith efforts of the other editors to carry on editing their articles.

While I dont want to go into each and every diff and explain it, just to give you a sample of his incivility, he has made edits where, even if only in jest or sarcasm, he makes atrocious claims like, I am on a kill Mahawiki mission, that User:Dineshkannambadi is the Kannada (Bin) Laden(sic). In another edit, even if only for jest(which I certainly dont find amusing nor appreciate esp., when it comes from him), he has threatened to sue me. He has called us cultural TERRORISTS, losers, notorious, shameless etc., etc. He uses the word vandalism like one would use 'Hi' and 'Hello'.

Find all the above and much much much more in the diffs I've provided below. Whats worse is his antics are going unchecked because Admin:Blugyen who knows about our feud is on a wikibreak and Admin:Sundar whose intervention I've sought more than once, is busy with other things(I presume, in real life) - which ofcourse, I dont hold against either of them.

But wikipedia will be a poorer place if brazen incivility like this goes unchecked for weeks simply because many admins dont know about it or the ones who know are by force of circumstances, too busy to deal with it.

I request immediate and harsh action on Mahawiki.

Once again, let me remind everyone that in the links below, none of them pertain to any content disputes. I belive in dealing with the content disputes on the relevant talk pages and dont usually bring it out on user talk pages.

Infact, I have even not listed below, the atrocious claim he made a couple of days ago that I had deleted and later undeleted an article. Also not listed below is his blatant removal of {{fact}} tags I had added in a couple of articles without even clarifying or providing a citation for the claim which I had tagged. Also not listed below may be umpteen other instances of incivility and npa violations on his part that I might have missed.

All the diffs below deal purely and only with his brazen incivil comments and personal attacks not just on me, but on User:Dineshkannambadi and also highly respected historians like Mr. Suryanath Kamath et al(who have been cited in some articles by Dinesh) whom he has trashed and dismissed in the most uncivil manner possible.

Apart from this he also makes disparaging remarks on Karnataka and Karnataka politicians who he keeps claiming are oppressing and torturing Marathi speaking people in Belgaum. This is not a content dispute, this is plain nonsense and insanely belligerent language.

His incivility apart, he has made it a habit and a routine to go around all over wikipedia branding me and Dinesh as 'Kannadi' vandals bent on Kannadizing all articles we touch. Ask him if we have included any uncited material or if we has ever cited any references for his numerous claims or whether he has taken it up on the article talk page instead of on a random user talk page. His answer will be negative. And yet, that doesnt stop him from going around shouting that we have been vandalising articles!!

Anway, I dont want to veer this towards the 'content disputes' which is a whole different matter altogether. Content disputes can always be discussed and agreements reached. Let me present to you just his brazen incivility and personal attacks.

Here we go -

I've added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Philanthropist, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues at Talk:Philanthropist. You may remove the deletion notice, and the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached, or if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria. — Sebastian (talk) 03:36, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

help

I need help regarding the pages I created. I'm a follower of two spiritual organizations and was trying to create information about them. One is Dattapeetham, headed by Sri Ganapathi Sachchidananda Swamiji of Mysore and the other , World Teacher Trust, a newage philosphical and spirtual organization founded by Late Ekkirala Krishnamacharya. Both have world wide centers and lakhs of devotees. 1) I created an article on Ganapathi Sachchidananda , a spiritual leader and guru from Mysore. The article was later modified by someone who included copyright material. Admin Zoe deleted the article citing copyvio, which is understandable but he also said that Sri Swami was a non-notable person. When I created the article, Admin Deville agreed it was genuine. Please help me ....How can a swamiji who has Lakhs of followers and tours around the world every year be non-notable? I was wondering if you can undelete the article and revert it to the old version where it doesnt violate any copyrights. I couldnt ask admin Zoe because he seems not to agree about the notability. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ganapathi_Sachchidananda

2) Same issue with article on Master E.K.

Though I initially used copyrighted material and was trying to rewrite in my own words, Admin Zoe deleted it every time. I can understand that. May be I have to use Ekkirala Krishnamcharya instead of Master E.K. But again I failed to convince Admin Zoe that he is a notable person. He protected the page Master E.K. Please help me on this.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Master_E.K. I might have crossed the civility code by being a little bit rude to Admin Zoe because of the short time he gave to establish reasons for notability. But I believe these two spiritual gurus can fittingly have a bio on wikipedia, becuase they fit the "cult following" condition from wiki:bio code. Kindly help me on this and let me know if I'm missing something.

Thank you, Ramki

You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Image:Kirit_somaiya.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Kirit_somaiya.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MECUtalk 16:58, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your revision to January 11

Hi I undid your revision made to January 11 because I believe such a major change to the format of the page should be discussed. Since if one is changed then all 367 day pages will need to be changed I must ask are you prepared to do that yourself? --Drappel 12:13, 6 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:Interview with the Vampire.jpg, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:Interview with the Vampire.jpg fits the criteria for speedy deletion for the following reason:

This DVD cover has been replaced by the film's theatrical movie poster. See Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Image:Interview with the Vampire.jpg, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. --Android Mouse Bot 2 22:11, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Farhan Azmi

I've nominated Farhan Azmi, an article you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but in this particular case I do not feel that Farhan Azmi satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion; I have explained why in the nomination space (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and the Wikipedia deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Farhan Azmi and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of Farhan Azmi during the discussion but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion discussion. Borough categories

I'm contacting you because I see you have created some Alaskan 'borough' catgeories and given them their proper names. There is currently a heated debate with regards to English geography relating to the borough category names. Someone has been naming the categories after the main town in them, which covers a different area to the borough itself. Some of us believe it should be unambiguous so the full borough name should be used. It would be welcome if you could lend us your vote for a rename at: Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2007_June_9#Oldham. Thanks. 88.104.64.157 16:42, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image source problem with Image:Aditya Birla Group logo.gif

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

This is an automated message from a robot. You have recently uploaded Image:Aditya Birla Group logo.gif. The file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 12:02, 7 September 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. If you believe you received this message in error, please notify the bot's owner. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Deadly Blessing.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Deadly Blessing.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Calendar edits

  1. I invite you to discuss radical changes to Wikicalendar articles on the project talk page here. Devoted editors work hard to keep the format of the articles consistent but it seems that you have been making radical formatting changes without discussion over the last few months. It seems that you have only a passing interest in the articles and your edits are consistently reverted. Thanks. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 18:10, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did to June 9. Your edits have been reverted. Please discuss your proposed changes. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 14:33, 14 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  3. Please stop. If you continue to vandalize Wikipedia, as you did to October 31, you will be blocked from editing. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 14:02, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  4. I see that you've taken a few months off, but you have returned to being disruptive. Please stop making edits to calendar articles such as you made to August 19. Since you have refused to discuss these changes in the past, and you continue to make them, I can only assume that you are intending to be disruptive. Further edits will be reverted on sight and you will be blocked. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 21:07, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  5. This is the last warning you will receive for your disruptive edits, such as the one you made to June 18. If you vandalize Wikipedia again, you will be blocked from editing. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 22:08, 21 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
