Statement on My Edits
Over the past six years, I have made over 13,000 edits here. All of my edits have been in accordance with Wikipedia policy, except for WP:CIVIL, as things can sometimes get hot on Wikipedia. I regret the times that I have been uncivil.
I stand behind all of my other edits. If you disagree with some of them, then your disagreement is with Wikipedia policies themselves, or the ways in which you perceive that I have applied them. Or perhaps your disagreement is more fundamental: with the “culture” of Wikipedia itself.
In 2005 and 2006, my own Wikipedia article was vandalized by writers with whom I was then engaged in a public literary feud. I came here initially to correct and defend the article about me. I then became interested in Wikipedia editing in general.
Over the years, I have occasionally edited the Wikipedia articles of writers with whom I have feuded. These edits were done in compliance with Wikipedia policies, and I stand by those edits. They represent a small proportion of my editorial work here.
If I have caused anyone personal pain through the application of Wikipedia policies to the articles about them, I apologize for having caused that pain. I regret having done so.
Furthermore, some of the writing that I have posted on my personal Wikipedia talk page, particularly the rants, are nothing more than inflated literary/cultural/political shtick, and have been intended as such. They may have violated the “spirit” of Wikipedia, whatever that is, but after all, it is my own personal talk page, and Wikipedia policy allows wide (if not unlimited) latitude in what you write on your own talk page.
On my profile page, you’ll find an essay I’ve recently written that presents some of my views regarding Wikipedia, the writing art in general, and some of my experiences here.
Finally, I do not intend to engage in any further controversies by working as an editor here. I may occasionally fix small non-controversial things on an article or two. But I wish to fight no one.
If my own article is vandalized further, I reserve the right to defend it per WP:BLP and WP:OTRS. But I doubt that it will be necessary very often, as vandalism reversion is faster and more rigorous than it was during the “infancy” of Wikipedia.
Best of luck to you all.

- So the death threat claims, your "husband" being afraid, what was that all about? Just curious.Dan Murphy (talk) 00:47, 17 May 2013 (UTC)
- Oh, yeah. Since you've been aggressive about "COI" editing by others, how should the articles about yourself that you've edited be handled?Dan Murphy (talk) 00:49, 17 May 2013 (UTC)
BLP restriction
Your thoughts on your userpage and above present some interesting food for thought. However, some of your comments above are extremely troubling when considered in light of your edits and the "rants" you posted last month, which were deeply unfortunate and reflected negatively on the project. If you do continue or resume editing in the future, you are directed not to edit biographical articles concerning any living person (other than yourself and excluding reversion of obvious vandalism) and not to make disparaging comments about any living person on any page of Wikipedia. I hope you will understand that at this point, these restrictions are in the best interests of all concerned. Newyorkbrad (talk) 16:07, 17 May 2013 (UTC)
Protection
I noticed you've received some abuse on your user page and user talk page, so I have semi-protected both for a week to prevent further abuse. If you would like me to either rescind or extend the protection, please just drop by my talk page and I will be happy to do so. 28bytes (talk) 20:05, 17 May 2013 (UTC)
