Summa Health System is one of the largest HMO's in Ohio. It includes a network of hospitals, community health centers, a health plan, a physician-hospital organization, an entrepreneurial entity, research and a foundation. It has more than 1,200 licensed, inpatient beds on the Akron City, St. Thomas and Cuyahoga Falls General Hospital campuses and outpatient care in four health centers in surrounding communities. Tom Strauss is the President and CEO. Dale P. Murphy is the Chairman of Medicine.

The Summa Health System Foundation lobbies and funds health-related initiatives. Summa's physician-hospital organization represents more than 900 physicians. The Summa Enterprise Group seizes for-profit opportunities to bring health-based products to the market. SummaCare provides medical coverage for more than 80,000 members in Northeast Ohio. Summa Health System serves more than a half million patients each year in comprehensive emergency, acute, critical, outpatient and long-term/home care settings and is the largest employer in Summit County. Working collaboratively with many other healthcare institutions, Summa is a member of the Cleveland Health Network, the largest provider network in Northeast Ohio.
