Request: Last protection duration in dialogue box?
https://github.com/wikimedia-gadgets/twinkle/issues/2021
Is it possible, when bringing up the dialogue box to protect a page, to show the duration of the last protection? Like how when you're blocking someone, it shows how long the last block was for. <span style="color:DarkGray">...</span> <span style="color:DarkOrange">disco</span><span style="color: #556B2F">spinster</span> <span style="color:DarkGray">talk</span> 19:52, 28 September 2024 (UTC)

:@Discospinster. When I went to test this, it shows this already. For example, go to WP:ANI, then do TW -> PP. Under Tagging options, I see the red text {{tq|Current protection level: Move: sysop (indefinite) by ScottishFinnishRadish. Got any pages where this isn't showing up that you'd like me to look into? –<span style="color:blue">Novem Linguae</span> <small>(talk)</small> 12:17, 16 October 2024 (UTC)
Twinkle generates the merge to and merge from tags correctly, but the section name in the "discuss=" pointer doesn't match the name generated. It's still better than most manual merges, so I suppose I shouldn't complain, but it could be better. Perhaps an option to name the section, also? — Arthur Rubin (talk) 15:21, 28 December 2019 (UTC)
:Sorry for the delay in response Arthur Rubin, but I'm not quite sure what exactly you're asking for. ::I'm thinking of articles that are not currently edit protected but have been in the past - for how long was the immediately previous protection? For example Ni Hao, Kai Lan shows that it's currently move protected, but I'm interested in the length of the last edit protection (in this case it was one year but in the Twinkle dialogue box I have to click on "protection log" to see that). <span style="color:DarkGray">...</span> <span style="color:DarkOrange">disco</span><span style="color: #556B2F">spinster</span> <span style="color:DarkGray">talk</span> 17:31, 16 October 2024 (UTC)
::In that specific example, Twinkle generated in the mergefrom and mergeto templates, but generated the section (visibly) as Talk:Six Degrees of Separation (play)#Proposed merge of David Hampton into Six Degrees of Separation (play). The section name in the "discuss" field has to match the generated section title. I patched it by adding an anchor template to the generated discussion section. — Arthur Rubin (talk) 04:51, 7 January 2020 (UTC)

Noticeboard notifications are marked as minor edits
From WP:PROD:
https://github.com/wikimedia-gadgets/twinkle/issues/2032
:A special case is BLPPROD: an article which has had the BLPPROD-tag removed still can be PRODed via the process described here.
When a user is given a noticeboard notification through the Talkback feature (I don't know about the other three), it somehow gets marked as minor (diff). This causes the user to not receive the notification associated with the edit (I know, because ClueBot marks my talk page archivings as minor and I don't get new message alerts on them). Since the point of these notifications is to make sure they are aware of the discussion (especially since ANI requires the user to be notified), these should not be marked as minor. Hello,
WP:UWs removed from the menu?
Would it be possible to add article naming functionality to Template:Welcome Cookie in the same way as Template:Welcome? This way, the template would say something to the effect of "I noticed your edits on <x article> and wanted to welcome you! Etc.
Why have some of the entries in Twinkle's WP:UW pop-up menu been removed? For example, the Uw-mos1 series has been removed, but I don't think it was the only one... Let me know if this has already been discussed!
:IJBall It is still there - but I have to scroll down to the bottom of two scrollbars to see it. :: You're right – that was the issue: I was only scrolling to the bottom of the "inside" scrollbar, not both scrollbars... == Adding other Welcomeen templates to the default configuration ==
Endorsing PRODs doesn't work in talk page has old prod template
https://github.com/wikimedia-gadgets/twinkle/issues/2038
Hey. As someone who frequently welcomes new users, I sometimes have the occasion to use the many welcomeen templates, which basically says "Hi! Unfortunately, you're not fluent in English. Please edit another language Wikipedia. Thank you." I have had to add several welcomeen templates, and I propose that all be added to the default configuration. Please note that I've used all of them at least once.
*Welcomeen-ha (Hausa)
*Welcomeen-hi (Hindi)
*Welcomeen-id (Indonesian)
*Welcomeen-it (Italian)
*Welcomeen-ms (Malay)
*Welcomeen-fa (Persian)
*Welcomeen-th (Thai)
*Welcomeen-ur (Urdu)
*Welcomeen-vi (Vietnamese)

Now, I'm vaguely aware that other welcomeen templates exist. On principle, I'm not opposed to having all of them added to the default configuration of Twinkle. I'm just trying to prevent inertia by suggesting only the ones I've had occasion to use. I dream of horses (Hoofprints) (Neigh at me) 22:21, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
It looks like Twinkle now places old prod at the talk page at the time of nomination. However, it seems that this stops the script for endorsing an existing PROD via Proposed deletion endorsed, since it finds the old prod and aborts. May be I missed something, but previously it always asked if one wanted to endorse instead if an existing PROD was in place. I don't recall if talk prod notice was ever present in those cases. —&nbsp;<small>&nbsp;<span style="color: #B00;">HELL</span>KNOWZ&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;▎TALK</small> 21:58, 18 January 2020 (UTC)

::Almostsndit was TW&rarr;XfD&rarr;CfD/S&rarr;C2F. This latest update is a big one: partial blocking support is here! The warn menu also has two brand new menus: one that puts the single notices and warnings together, and one that shows every single message available. The menus for picking warnings and deletion sorting categories for AfD noms has been improved, and there are a number of bug fixes as well as improved handling and functionality. Changes not otherwise attributed were made by User:Amorymeltzer.

Request: Last protection duration in dialogue box?

[edit]

Is it possible, when bringing up the dialogue box to protect a page, to show the duration of the last protection? Like how when you're blocking someone, it shows how long the last block was for. ... discospinster talk 19:52, 28 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Discospinster. When I went to test this, it shows this already. For example, go to WP:ANI, then do TW -> PP. Under Tagging options, I see the red text Current protection level: Move: sysop (indefinite) by ScottishFinnishRadish. Previous protections: protection log • pending changes log (expired 2019-02-24). Got any pages where this isn't showing up that you'd like me to look into? –Novem Linguae (talk) 12:17, 16 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm thinking of articles that are not currently edit protected but have been in the past - for how long was the immediately previous protection? For example Ni Hao, Kai Lan shows that it's currently move protected, but I'm interested in the length of the last edit protection (in this case it was one year but in the Twinkle dialogue box I have to click on "protection log" to see that). ... discospinster talk 17:31, 16 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Request: Inline parenthetical referencing

[edit]

It would be nice if were added. Snowman304|talk 01:14, 6 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Snowman304. Are you aware of any other inline templates that Twinkle places? I don't think there are any. I don't think Twinkle has the ability to place anything inline, which would probably require the visual editor. –Novem Linguae (talk) 12:19, 16 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Novem Linguae: Template:Inline parenthetical referencing is confusingly named. It's about parenthetical referencing that's inline, not an inline template for parenthetical referencing. It produces the same sort of box that, say, Template:Cleanup lang would. Snowman304|talk 00:10, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, got it. I've gone ahead and renamed the template to Parenthetical referencing, since "inline" and "section" both have very specific meaning in maintenance tag template names, and that is not what is going on here. –Novem Linguae (talk) 08:09, 17 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

There is only one level for this, which might be a bit strong for new editors Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Can we get a lighter level, similar to how there are multiple levels for vandalism? Bogazicili (talk) 14:57, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This isn't really a Twinkle issue because it involves the creation of new user warning (Uw) templates. Wikipedia talk:Template index/User talk namespace might be a better place to suggest this. –Novem Linguae (talk) 19:41, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Noticeboard notifications are marked as minor edits

[edit]

When a user is given a noticeboard notification through the Talkback feature (I don't know about the other three), it somehow gets marked as minor (diff). This causes the user to not receive the notification associated with the edit (I know, because ClueBot marks my talk page archivings as minor and I don't get new message alerts on them). Since the point of these notifications is to make sure they are aware of the discussion (especially since ANI requires the user to be notified), these should not be marked as minor. ミラP@Miraclepine 02:17, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Users will get a notification alright even if the edit is marked as minor. ClueBot doesn't trigger notifications because its edits are additionally marked as bot edits. – SD0001 (talk) 05:29, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No, minor edits on your user talk don't trigger alerts. Nardog (talk) 07:56, 23 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
From testing it on testwiki, looks like you're right. Is this some recent change? I've always remembered it working that way, and it's what the code says as well – minor edits should suppress notifications only if the editor has nominornewtalk right, which per Special:ListGroupRights is only available to bots. – SD0001 (talk) 11:54, 25 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's worked that way for as far back as I can remember. Here's me telling an editor to mark their c/e edits on my talk page as minor in February 2019. Nardog (talk) 05:16, 26 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Adding other Welcomeen templates to the default configuration

[edit]

Now, I'm vaguely aware that other welcomeen templates exist. On principle, I'm not opposed to having all of them added to the default configuration of Twinkle. I'm just trying to prevent inertia by suggesting only the ones I've had occasion to use. I dream of horses (Hoofprints) (Neigh at me) 22:21, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

CFD/S merging

[edit]

In Special:Diff/1255067356, I expected it to put a merge tag (), but it put a rename tag instead. jlwoodwa (talk) 23:55, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Misclick? Has it happened anywhere else? Primefac (talk) 12:34, 3 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see how it could have been a misclick – there's no "rename vs merge" option to incorrectly select, and it did go through as C2F (as shown in Special:Diff/1255067358). I think the issue is that the speedy category criteria are mostly for renaming, and Twinkle doesn't know that C2F is the exception – it's for speedy merging. jlwoodwa (talk) 15:15, 3 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Jlwoodwa. Can you confirm the steps you took? Was it TW -> XFD -> CfD/S -> C2D?
When I did that on testwiki just now, it placed . But you're saying it should instead place ? –Novem Linguae (talk) 15:34, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Almost – it was TW→XfD→CfD/S→C2F. Most of the speedy category criteria are used for renaming, but WP:C2F is for merging, so I think it should place in most cases and only when C2F is used. jlwoodwa (talk) 16:44, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It might be better to get a technical person from your own wiki to look into this. Have you tried posting somewhere like ar:ويكيبيديا:الميدان/تقنية or ar:نقاش_ويكيبيديا:لمح_البصر? –Novem Linguae (talk) 17:20, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Novem Linguae Thank you for replay, I tried to share this issus with Interface administrators in Wikipedia:Interface administrators' noticeboard there, but i don't get any information exept that Twinkle in arwiki is load from enwiki, that's why i open this topic here hoping find any help. — أيوب (Talk 📧) 19:49, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism/Promotion Only Account greyed out

[edit]

Why is vandalism-only account and promotion-only account greyed out in the ARV menu? TheWikipedetalk 15:47, 12 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Are you looking at an IP? NightWolf1223 <Howl at meMy hunts> 16:05, 12 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah TheWikipedetalk 17:45, 12 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Likely because IPs are editors but are not accounts. Primefac (talk) 20:11, 12 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
