Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors

To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.

• Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
• Offer a correction if possible.
• References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
• Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 17:12 on 10 October 2024) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
• Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
• Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems because this is not a talk page. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
• No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
• Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
• Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed or determined not to be an error, or the item has been rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

Errors with "In the news"

• This is really pedantic but I feel it would be more accurate to say Hurricane Milton (path pictured) since the image doesn’t actually depict the storm. PCN02WPS (talk | contribs) 14:18, 10 October 2024 (UTC)

  Or just shorten the hurricane blurb. Per WP:ITNBLURB:

  Blurbs should generally avoid comparison to any previous event, such as "Largest in the region since [year]". Previous events is generally out of scope of the page, and confers a publication bias favoring regions with a low frequency of similar events.

  Exactly. Shorten something on the right side, which can (more rarely) include poaching from OTD. Bear in mind that "unbalance" varies somewhat according to your particular screen size too.—Bagumba (talk) 15:43, 10 October 2024 (UTC)

"The Nobel Prize in Chemistry is awarded jointly to Demis Hassabis and John M. Jumper for their work on protein structure prediction and David Baker for his work on computational protein design." should be "The Nobel Prize in Chemistry is awarded to David Baker for his work on computational protein design and jointly to Demis Hassabis and John M. Jumper for their work on protein structure prediction." I know that David Baker is listed first in the official announcement but I decided to but Hassabis and Jumper first because that one has a smoother flow and it needs to be listed first that the award was awarded jointly and it is not that clear when it is mentioned in the middle of the sentence. ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸ ਆਫ਼ ਪੰਜਾਬ ^{(PrinceofPunjab | ਗੱਲਬਾਤ)} 16:44, 10 October 2024 (UTC)

Errors in "Did you know ..."

Current DYK

• ... that the lyric video for an Olivia Rodrigo song included a teaser that she would tour in support of her album Guts?

Sorry but it is not making sense to me why the interesting part needed to be snipped...? Sources like Billboard magazine clearly document the tour as having been announced on September 13, a whole five days after the lyric video's release. This got rid of the interesting part, which was supposed to be the hinting of the tour in an easter egg before its announcement.--NØ 03:44, 10 October 2024 (UTC)

It wasn't an announcement, it was a "teaser" in a music video, that's the whole point. As it happens, I agree it's not very interesting, but since tour teasers in music videos are not common, it passes the "unusual" test and therefore squeaks through. It will probably get decent views from the fanbase anyhow. The hook was already discussed here, BTW. Gatoclass (talk) 17:08, 10 October 2024 (UTC)

• Tornado item: 'four times the helicity reasonable for tornadogenesis' is unintelligible, and the helicity was measured for the parent storm not the tornado itself. I suggest changing to 'was produced by a storm that had hydrodynamical helicity four times higher than the threshold required for tornado formation'. No, she competed in five Olympic games for a country that would later exile her, per the article.
