***:While I can appreciate that you've been extremely busy with the work required to win the WikiCup and might be more than a little sick of doing GANs for a while, I don't think it is fair to "bank" all of these nominations for next year. I won't be participating in WikiCup going forward so I have no horse in this race, but if you have no intention of responding to these reviews now when they've been waiting on your responses for two months, and you've been actively editing otherwise, they should all be procedurally failed. Wow!
Just thought I'd stop by to say "Wow". I haven't been so active in recent months, but when I come back from time to tine I see all your great work on historical football topics. It is great to see someone relatively new working so diligently in this area and generating quality work. Cbl62 (talk) 16:55, 3 August 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks. BeanieFan11 (talk) 17:07, 3 August 2021 (UTC)
Barnstar for you!
The College football Barnstar | ||
For creating and expanding high-quality content on college football players and teams and for diligent research and advocacy in saving many notable articles from deletion. In a relatively short period since 2021, the 823 articles you created have received more than 3.7 million page views! These contributions include 21 college football biographies with more than 25,000 views:
I look forward to your next contributions. Cbl62 (talk) 17:08, 9 July 2023 (UTC) |
- Thank you very much, Cbl62 - this means a lot coming from you! And wow, I'm surprised my creations have received that many views - when I joined back in November 2020 (initially only to write two things), I would never have guessed I would go on to create things read by millions! BeanieFan11 (talk) 17:19, 9 July 2023 (UTC)
- Page views are an indication that people care for the subjects about which you are writing. You garnered 3.7 million views in just two-and-a-half years. That total will continue to grow in the years (and decades) ahead. Keep it up! Cbl62 (talk) 17:25, 9 July 2023 (UTC)

my story today |
---|
Thank you today for the article, introduced: "From Louisiana, Brocato attended St. John's High School and was the football team captain while playing fullback and placekicker. After graduating from St. John's, he attended Baylor University and became known as one of the best placekickers under pressure in the U.S. ... Brocato was a scout from 1974 until his death at 85 in 2015 – all but four of those years with the Houston Oilers / Tennessee Oilers / Titans. He became regarded as one of the greatest scouts in football history for his extensive research on every player and for his mentoring of many others in the field. He drove across the country and added around 20,000 miles (32,000 km) per year to his car to do his research on NFL prospects – even going into his 70s. ..." - the most eloborate introduction I_ve seen ;) - Enjoy your first TFA day! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 04:57, 19 December 2023 (UTC)

A Few Things
A few things for you:
- Congrats on the Wikicup!
- Thank you for doing so much good work at WP:PACKERS
- Don't forget to nominate C. O. Brocato at WP:FOUR
- I ran into an article I thought might be up your alley as I was doing some maintenance tag work: Johnny Strzykalski. First round draft pick, played for 7 seasons, was pretty darn good, and only two sentences in his bio. I went through and cleaned up/expanded the infobox, but thought of you when I came across it.
I hope you keep up the work (after taking a well deserved break!). Cheers, « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 23:01, 1 November 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks, and thank you for your willingness to review all those Packers articles – also note that I did nominate Brocato at WP:FOUR (some sections up) – I may take a look at Stryzkalski at some point soon. Thanks! BeanieFan11 (talk) 00:51, 2 November 2023 (UTC)

ProQuest
You might also want to get access to ProQuest to prove that these NFL players are notable. After my two-month long meltdown/mental health crisis, I lost access to the Wikipedia Library, and I can't get it back until February. It contains Newspaper articles that Newspapers.com does not have. Scorpions1325 (talk) 02:26, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hope you're feeling better – I do check ProQuest at times but I don't find it nearly as helpful for NFL players as Newspapers.com is – question, though: if you can't get library access until February, how are you using Newspapers.com for the articles you have improved? (also, are you unable to request access? IIRC the library allowed requests if you didn't qualify if you had good reason, unless I'm not remembering things right...) BeanieFan11 (talk) 02:31, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
- I got access to Newspapers.com using my old account's name. I did not scramble my Newspapers.com password. Also, I am going to be a lot busier as I am now working for a job that expects me to put in more than 40 hours per week (PTF City Carrier). I may be too tired to scour Newspapers.com for sources. Scorpions1325 (talk) 02:34, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
- Alright – good luck with your job. BeanieFan11 (talk) 15:04, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
- Do you know where I can request access to the Library? Scorpions1325 (talk) 18:46, 5 November 2023 (UTC)
- Not sure – it was a long while back that I first applied – an idea: is there anything that happens when you visit https://wikipedialibrary.wmflabs.org/users/my_library/ and login? BeanieFan11 (talk) 18:49, 5 November 2023 (UTC)
- It just gives me a screen that says I am not eligible. Scorpions1325 (talk) 18:56, 5 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hmmm... maybe @Samwalton9 (WMF): can help? BeanieFan11 (talk) 19:05, 5 November 2023 (UTC)

Rule on State Abbreviations
I was wondering if there was a place where I could find how abbreviations for the college football coach infobox are supposed to work. A fellow editor linked here as their reasoning as to expanding the abbreviations for Byron Dawson in this and this. I usually just follow what the majority of other coaches use (such as in Sam Pittman, Gus Malzahn, Hugh Freeze, Mark Stoops, Eliah Drinkwitz, and Kirk Ferentz) who are of much higher quality and notability.
I’m interested in hearing your thoughts, thanks! Thetreesarespeakingtome (talk) 14:50, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Thetreesarespeakingtome: Hmmm... not sure – I don't have a strong opinion either way (though I like it shorter a little more to make it less cluttered) – I don't like getting myself involved in the nitpicky abbreviations debates – maybe start up a discussion at WT:CFB? @Jweiss11: Probably will know if there's a page laying out style guides. BeanieFan11 (talk) 18:08, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for the ping here. Parenetical state code abbreviations for disambiguating high schools and college teams are standard practice for Template:Infobox college coach and they are used in the example provided in the template's documentation. Skycloud86 has cited Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Abbreviations#Special considerations, which states "Postal codes and abbreviations of place names—e.g., Calif. (California), TX (Texas), Yorks. (Yorkshire)—should not be used to stand for the full names in normal text. They can be used in tables when space is tight but should be marked up with
{{abbr}}
template on first occurrence. They should not be used in infoboxes." This passage of the MOS is contradictory since inboxes are tables, and given that infoboxes typically occupy a small fraction of an article's width, whereas tables in the body of an article can occupy the full width, so space in infoboxes can be even tighter. I agree that state codes are inapt for locations in infobox field like place of birth/death and building addresses, but the two-column portions of Template:Infobox college coach are a different animal. Newspapers.com question
Do you go through the Wikipedia Library everytime you use Newspapers.com? Years ago, I used to be able to just sign into my Newspapers.com account but that doesn't seem to be good enough anymore. For example, I'm signed into Newspapers.com right now but can't access a ref at Wichita Mall. Do I have to renew my account or something? WikiOriginal-9 (talk) 05:42, 12 November 2023 (UTC)

Hello, BeanieFan11,
I thought I'd let you know that this page is due for CSD G13 speedy deletion tomorrow. It showed up on our G13 soon daily list. It might be in User space, but it has an AFC tag on the page so it shows up as eligible to be deleted. But since this is an old article and you didn't create it, you wouldn't have received a reminder notice so that's what I'm doing right now. If you would like to preserve it, then please make an edit to the page. And you might consider removing the AFC tag, too. Thanks. Liz Read! Talk! 05:35, 18 November 2023 (UTC)

I was going through NAIA and DIII season articles looking for non-notable season articles. I was set to nominate this one at AfD, but then I saw that you were the article creator, and that gave me pause. A stand-alone article for an unexceptional DIII program is a bit of a stretch, and most of the sources are game summaries prepared by the schools participating in the games and thus lack independence. The article from The News Journal focuses on the demise of Wesley's athletic program in its entirety and doesn't constitute SIGCOV of the 2023 football team. The two WDEL pieces cited late in the article come closest to being SIGCOV of the team, but even those are focused more on COVID difficulties in finding opponents. Could you try to beef this up with some actual SIGOV of the team from independent, reliable sources? Cbl62 (talk) 19:34, 12 December 2023 (UTC)
- @Cbl62: I would be fine if you think it should be redirected to Wesley Wolverines football (I had a bit looser views on notability then; probably wouldn't have created it nowadays); besides what is already in the article, the only piece of coverage I was able to find was this from "BVMSports.com": although its probably sigcov I question whether it is a reliable source. I wonder if ultimately a merger to something like Wesley Wolverines football, 2010–2020, would work? BeanieFan11 (talk) 19:48, 12 December 2023 (UTC)
- Another possibility would be to create 2020 New Jersey Athletic Conference football season, though that would require a fair amount of work. Cbl62 (talk) 23:33, 12 December 2023 (UTC)

The article 1925 Delaware State Hornets football team has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Notability not established with substantive independent sources, only played two *high school* teams. Fails WP:NSEASONS
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Reywas92Talk 17:27, 14 December 2023 (UTC)

I won't be participating in WikiCup going forward so I have no horse in this race, but if you have no intention of responding to these reviews now when they've been waiting on your responses for two months, and you've been actively editing otherwise, they should all be procedurally failed. - Oh... I remember I had said I would expand that... apologies for not getting to it – you seem to have turned it into something pretty decent. I might still have the time to add some details at some point soon if you'd like. BeanieFan11 (talk) 19:53, 20 December 2023 (UTC)
- Your efforts are always welcome. Cbl62 (talk) 20:23, 20 December 2023 (UTC)

Packers Hall of Famers
A few months ago, you mentioned that there were some missing articles for Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame inductees. Well now William Brault, Jerry Atkinson (American football), E. S. Brusky, Al Treml, Wilner Burke and Frank Jonet are all done and nominated at WP:GAN. Thanks for the inspiration to get them done :) « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 19:37, 20 December 2023 (UTC)
- Great work! :) BeanieFan11 (talk) 19:51, 20 December 2023 (UTC)
DYK for Fred Provo
On 22 December 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Fred Provo, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Fred Provo was told he would have to have his arm amputated due to a wound sustained in World War II, but refused, recovered, and went on to play in the National Football League? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Fred Provo. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Fred Provo), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

I've no idea why I redirected this PROD to the Commonwealth Games but you were right to pick it up - I'm guessing a copy/paste error, as I meant to redirect to the 1980 Olympics, which is what I continue to think is the right result unless there is a LOT more sourcing than has appeared so far. I'm leaving you this because you queried in your edit summary whether the extra refs were enough - I'm afraid I suspect not, and would rather see it redirected than deleted.
