I just saw this. Apologies for not commenting earlier. This is a good idea. Not a coder myself, so can't help there, but I'll surely be one to participate otherwise. Thanks for dropping me a note about it. :) Oh, and be careful with that cabal-talk. We've already been labeled! >_> لennavecia 22:50, 23 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No worries! I posted another related proposal, but they're useless without someone technical doing the work. Best of luck with WP:WPBLP (and sorry for the name-calling), Skomorokh 01:56, 24 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Mail call for Chet

Sign below if you would like me to pass on the address to mail Chet letters when he's in boot camp. I'll contact you via WP email as soon as I get it.

 • Ched : ? 19:34, 23 May 2009 (UTC) Of course. Admit to never having worked with, or even talking to him, but his name alone indicates an extremely commendable person. Seriously though, I have the utmost respect for those who serve our country, and I'd love to pass along a thank you note. Careful Lara, folks might get the idea that you're actually a very wonderful person, we wouldn't want to tarnish the WP reputation you've worked so hard to build. ;) (found out about this the other day while talking to Steve - utter BS that someone could be treated so poorly)[reply]

Update, or lack thereof

I've not heard from Chet. I'll make some phone calls today. لennavecia 15:18, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Uuuugh-pdate

Chet apparently is not emancipated. He was going to contact his former boss with his address for basic, but they have not heard from him. A call to his recruiter yields no address either, only a recommendation to contact DHS. They, of course, as per usual, are entirely unhelpful. And, last, no response by email or phone from his sister. BUT, his parents are on the list of contacts. They're the only people on it, actually. Makes PERFECT sense. <_< Fucking morons. Incompetent fucking morons. لennavecia 15:35, 14 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Still no new news, I guess. :-( I'll keep checking back here (as long as I remember). If you do get his address, and have time, ping me since I do want to write him. FloNight♥♥♥ 17:51, 19 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I missed a call from him Sunday. I answered just as he hung up. I am so sad right now. I just called his boss to ask if maybe he's called her. He has not. He apparently used his one call to call me, and I was at work and couldn't pull out my phone until after the call had just ended. I have the option for long voice mails, and really wish he'd left one, but he did not. His boss said that she's called DHS several times and they've finally told her that as soon as they get the address, they'll give it to her. Unfortunately, they've not yet gotten it. So he's just over two weeks in, and he's not had contact with anyone, apparently. Having been through it, my heart breaks for him. Words cannot express how much words from friends and family encourage you when you're dealing with basic military training, particularly at 17, which is how old I was when I went through it and how old Chet is now. One would think I'd have personnel connections that I could call in... hmm... maybe I do. I'll make more calls. لennavecia 20:02, 22 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oh! Poor Chet! When I got my first call, it was 3am hawaii time(which is where I live), so I woke my mom up. After all that, the TI wouldn't even let us talk, just give the address and go. It was the only time I cried in BMT (Not including the stuff most trainees don't have to go through, but that is another story).Drew Smith What I've done 20:41, 22 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Address

I have Chet's address!! He just called me, so I'll start sending emails now and if you are not listed above, list yourself below here. Starting a new list will keep me from missing anyone. لennavecia 21:14, 24 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You've got a kind heart. :-) --Malleus Fatuorum 21:19, 24 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. :) By the way, everyone, he's doing really well! His zero week and first week were really hard, but he said that he's adjusting now and he's doing really well. He's gotten a few letters from family, but he's really looking forward to more. He now realizes just how important letters from friends and family are, so please write as much as you feel compelled to. He won't have time to write everyone back, but know that he appreciates your letters! He's in the same training squad I was in, which is crazy awesome, haha. But yea, write him!! لennavecia 21:39, 24 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Don't forget to write, people!! لennavecia 02:33, 28 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Just another reminder to write, even if you've already written. If you feel so compelled to write often, as I noted earlier, it cannot be expressed strongly enough how important letters from family and friends are, so please write him, even if it's a short note to let him know you're thinking about him and that you wish him luck! As the weeks go on, being away from family and friends and dealing with the pressures of basic training wear you down. You adjust to the treatment, but become more homesick with each day. Letters help keep things in perspective and serve as much needed reminders that the people you care about still care about you and keep you in their thoughts. Words of encouragement are particularly important and taken to heart during those stressful times. I promised he'd get lots of letters, so don't make me a liar, and don't disappoint... WRITE!! :) لennavecia 16:12, 3 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Letter from Chet

He's not had a lot of time to write, obviously, but I got a letter from him today. He's in his fifth week and he says it's "definitely gotten better". His flight isn't getting yelled at nearly as much, and they are doing so well, in fact, that their MTI (military training instructor) told them they may get base liberty for the day he wrote the letter. So hopefully he got some time to chill and do some fun stuff.

They apparently already went through Warrior Week, which was fifth week when I was there. He got gassed, something I did not suffer. He said that it "was pretty interesting, at least after the burn went away from the gas. It did clear out my sinuses though..." His flight has also been informed that they'll be the flag bearers at their graduation, which is an honor. Someone emailed me to say he was in a band flight. I forget who that was now, but I disagreed at the time. This letter confirms that he's not in a band flight. He's been doing KP (kitchen police or patrol) duty mostly, which he said is great as far as food goes (they get prime choice on fresh food), but he doesn't like getting up at 2am. Understandable since he's probably going to bed at something like 10. Although, the dating on the letter suggests he wrote it around midnight, so... hopefully he's resting.

He's apparently not gotten a lot of letters, but he does thank MZMcBride for his and promises to write back as soon as he is able. He also got a letter from someone neither he nor I know from the name they signed. I won't put it here, but the initials are SN. So if you write him again, maybe tell him your WP name? Or tell me and I'll include it in my next letter.

The date on the letter is 6-6-09–6-7-09, so come on peeps! WRITE HIM! Seriously. Takes like ten minutes, and five of those are just putting his long-ass address on the envelope. Don't have to talk about anything important. Just let him know you're thinking about him and you wish him well... good luck and all that. لennavecia 22:22, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Just quickly Lara, I've got my letter for Chet, which I will send today, do you think he will get it in time? When does he leave training? Steve Crossin Talk/Help us mediate! 22:29, 14 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
He'll get it. He gets mail pretty much as quickly as any snail mail. If you mail it today, he should get it in like three days... wait, are you overseas? Hmm. Well, he's into his fifth week of eight. So he should get it either way. لennavecia 22:34, 14 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, OK. Yeah, I'm overseas. I thought he was only there for six weeks. Thanks. Steve Crossin Talk/Help us mediate! 22:35, 14 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've blocked him for 72 hours to prevent further harassment, but this will be increased to indef as soon as checkuser confirms the link. It's a WP:DUCK situation but I still want a Checkuser 1/ to be absolutely sure, 2/ to find all the sleeper socks, and 3/ to get the underlying IPs, since harassment is involved. Thanks. Jehochman Talk 15:37, 23 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If a CU confirms, just speedy the article and close the AFD. Until then, however, I think it best to let the AFD ride. لennavecia 15:38, 23 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, that's why I didn't speedy it myself. Jehochman Talk 15:39, 23 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bavarian Pigeon Corps

I have found a report of a scientific experiment that casts doubt on whether pigeons could carry 70 grams. Please see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Bavarian_Pigeon_Corps#Was_this_even_feasible.3F Albatross2147 (talk) 07:05, 24 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, the above article which was deleted 2 days ago for lack of notability has been created again by its original editor. Not sure what should happen next.......--AssegaiAli (talk) 11:38, 25 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, it was deleted per AFD. I thought I'd speedied it. It's been speedied now. In such cases, tag the article for speedy deletion criteria G4. لennavecia 14:43, 25 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Just wanted to let you know that I deleted this as G4, since it appears to substantially identical to the version discussed at AfD. Thanks! TNXMan 14:42, 25 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yea, I saw. Thanks. I incorrectly recalled this being an article I had speedied from the WP:NEWBLP list earlier this week. You made the right call. So again, thanks. لennavecia 14:45, 25 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. I kept the article on my watchlist, as I had a feeling it might show up again. TNXMan 14:47, 25 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

User page mark up question

Hey, when I try to insert this on my user page it completely messes everything up. Any idea how to fix this? — Please comment R2 19:03, 25 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There appears to be a character limit to what will keep it on the left. I tried using
and also tried
, but neither worked. I tried adding part of it and it worked fine, but adding all of it moves it. Best suggestion, condense the wording and try again. I don't know the why of it, though. It doesn't make sense to me. لennavecia 00:21, 26 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Pigeons in aerial photography

Well it looks as though I owe you a sorta kinda (shuffles feet) apology regarding pigeons being able to carry a decent sort of weight whilst flying at the very least. Thanks to Hans soaring like an eagle the role of pigeons in this branch of photography is properly recognised in what is now a great little article - one that will no doubt have some more added to it in due course. Cheers. Albatross2147 (talk) 13:47, 26 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the note. Hans has done a great job finding sources and rewriting the article. Very interesting stuff. لennavecia 14:23, 26 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You can put this absurd rumor to rest. I came to the article with Kim Bruning in order to fix a computer science article. Moulton was banned from the article and Picard didn't get it deleted, so she wanted her information about her work and the rest put into the article. We took the information and I worked it into a usable system. I also found news reports and the rest that talked about her research. Kim and I minimized the scandalous aspects and got it to a state that Picard was content with. I talked to her about the article over 4 times through email, especially when I was seeking clarification on AI (as I do not have a computer science background).
