Biography
Jean Daret was born in Brussels in 1613.[1] He settled in Aix-en-Provence where in 1639 he married Ma[g]deleine Cabassole, from a well-known local family. They had two sons, Jean-Baptiste and Michel, both of whom became artists.[2]
Put in charge of the works of art at the château de Vincennes,[2] he was appointed an official painter for King Louis XIV.[1] He specialised in decorating mansions, namely Chateau de Chateaurenard, at Rue Gaston Saporta, in Aix-en-Provence.[1] He also created the magnificant painting commissioned by the seigneur de Covet for his château at Marignane, notably those in the "Mirabeau Hall".
